Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know this is the place to come with this question!

Does anyone know of any good personal retreats in the Northern VA that accepts nursing mothers? I was going to go to the Dominican Studies house in Arlington, but they don't accept nursing infants.

I am looking for a silent Ignatian type retreat. I already know about Our Lady of Bethesda and am looking for other suggestions as well...

Thanks in advance.

Sara

Sara, Opus Dei has weekend retreats that allow infants up to age 6 (or is it 9?) months. you don't need to be a member or cooperator. They are loosely based Ignatian, not purely. I try to go every year. Last year I brought my little one and it went very well.

JennGM:

I have been searching on the web for them, but can't seem to find a link or a phone number...any ideas of how to get a hold of them?

I know there are retreats at Longlea...just can't seem to connect up with them.

Thanks...anyone know about the Miles Jesu retreats?
Who runs them and where they are held?

Peace,
Sara

Sara, I'll PM you with info. The women's side of the retreat is a little "archaic".

I think my sister took a nursing baby with her to the Regnum Christi retreat center in Potomac--the one that shares the space with the Center for Family Development.

Oh, have you looked into the Trappists in Berryville? They have a facility where you can stay for self-directed retreats. I do not know if they accept nursing babies, though.

I have taken babies up until almost walking on my weekend retreats at Our Lady of Bethesda. I would sit in the hall outside the conference rooms when the baby was awake and listen from there. I think some ladies even bring a baby monitor so they can listen to the talk that way.

The retreat is silent, but there is always lots of willing women to hold a baby while you eat, shower, or go to confession. I think that they have spiritual exercises which anyone can attend.

I attended the retreat at Our Lady of Bethesda when my so David was a baby...6 years ago...Yikes! Now you see why I need to go on a retreat...sooner rather than later!

My curent youngest is 4 months and I would like to go before she starts crawling.

I will check the Berryville place...

Thanks for the insight thus far.
