Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The self-sufficiency thread reminded me that I have a raised bed that will soon need my attention...provided the 8" of snow melts off quickly.

I'd appreciate recommendations for seeds...I have a decidedly black thumb, so I need things that work for total amateurs...

Thanks!

Seed Savers   www.seedsavers.org
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds   www.rareseeds.com

These two companies are ones I'm most familiar with.

I'm a fellow "black thumb" gardener, so I, too, am anxious for advice from those whose gardening skills produce greener results!

One idea that may be useful...many seed packets have too many seeds for the average home gardener. My daughter and son-in-law shared some of the seeds they recently purchased from Baker Creek, and I'm sending them some of ours from past purchases from Seed Savers. Between our two households we can't possibly use more than a few squash or melon vines! If you have other like-minded families in your area, maybe you could also share seed purchases.

I have only bought Burpee Heirloom seeds from our local farm supply store.

I've had this link: Heirloom Vegetable Gardener's Assistant saved for a long time, thinking that one of these years I'm going to read up and plan ahead.

Heirloom Acres seed, seed savers...those are ones I know that we have bought from this year.

Just remember, to save some of that seed, from whatever you actually bring to harvest.
