Hi, everyone--
My DRE just asked me yesterday to take over our preK/K class, because the former teacher quit abruptly.
I do have a regular lesson plan that I must follow, but I thought I would promise the kids a special game at the end if they behave (I won't put it quite that way to them, but the old teacher partly quit because the kids wouldn't stay in their seats, I think. She is a grandma and not up to the littles, I think!).
Anyway, I am going to talk about Lent and the liturgical seasons and their colors. Then our game could be "liturgical colors twister" (I don't know if I heard of that somewhere, but it came to me today. I'm not going to worry about right & left, just hand & foot).
So, I have my big mat all ready to glue squares or dots of white, violet, green, and rose--BUT I have these questions:
1. do you think maybe I should just skip rose? Am I making it too complicated for the littles? And if I do, what shall I say the third week of Lent?
2. If I do talk about rose, should I use the terms "Gaudete" and "Laerte" (and how do you pronounce "Laerte", anyway?), or just say "halfway through Advent and Lent", or just talk about the colors in terms of Ordinary Time (right now), Lent (coming soon), rose (one special Sunday in Lent), White (Easter)?
And I'm leaving out red altogether, to simplify things, but let me know if you think that's wrong.
I have 3 kids of my own, including an 11-year-old and a 5-year-old, so you'd think I could figure this out, but I am nervous. And I know the boards will shut down in a few hours...
But anyway, thanks so much!

I think that if they kids are old enough to go to a CCD class, you can use the terms Laetere and Gauete. They will learn those new words sometime and though they sound strange to us, they are simply new words to them, don't you think?
laetere pronunciation
The twister game sounds really fun! If you add red in, people will have to stretch farther, but I don't think it will be confusing.
You'll be great. God bless you for helping at the last minute.
