Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Ladies,

I know this is the right place to come, as there is much wisdom here...and you are all incredibly well read!

My husband is turning 40 on Sunday, and I am surprising him with a party tomorrow night! I want to present him with a small book of "40 Thoughts for 40 Years" but I am struggling...it seemed like such a great idea last month!

Anyway, if you would like to offer your assistance to this poor soul, I'd really appreciate it...I am looking for all kinds of random things, from poignant to witty.

Thanks in advance...and yes, I beat my husband to the big 4-0, by 4 months!

Peace to your day, Ladies...you are the best!

Sara Beatty

Will Rogers

In Hollywood the woods are full of people that learned to write, but evidently can't read. If they could read their stuff, they'd stop writing.

On Growing Older:
Eleven Will Rogers Quotes about growing older... (U)

1 "Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it."

2 "The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for."

3 "Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved."

4 "When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra."

5 " You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks."

6 "I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top."

7 " One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young."

8 "One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been."

9 "Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable."

10 "Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it's called golf."

11 "If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old."

Following Jen's idea, you could Google search for quotes about growing older or quotes about age or quotes about anything else you wanted to include (kids, family, gray hair, love, etc...).

Mark Twain:
"When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look, it's a sure sign you're getting old."

"The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age."
-- Lucille Ball

-- Robert Browning

Or I could do it for you, lol...

(This looks to be a good place: Age and Aging quotes

"Youth is the period in which a man can be hopeless. The end of every episode is the end of the world. But the power of hoping through everything, the knowledge that the soul survives its adventures, that great inspiration comes to the middle-aged."
-- Gilbert K. Chesterton

"Father Time is not always a hard parent, and, though he tarries for none of his children, often lays his hand lightly upon those who have used him well; making them old men and women inexorably enough, but leaving their hearts and spirits young and in full vigor. With such people the gray head is but the impression of the old fellow's hand in giving them his blessing, and every wrinkle but a notch in the quiet calendar of a well-spent life."
-- Charles Dickens

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.” - Mark Twain

"It often happens that I wake up at night and begin to think about a serious problem and decide I must tell the Pope about it. Then I wake up completely and remember that I am the Pope." -- Blessed Pope John XXIII

You guys are great! Thanks so much for your help!

I'm giving this a bit of a bump to pull in some other ideas.

My kids and I spent the morning making a music "video" for my husband...we used the song "GASTON" from Beauty and the Beast and rewrote the lyrics to fit Greg.

I can't wait for him to see it...

Your helpful ideas are going to be incorporated into a booklet. Thanks again!

I knew this would be the place to come!

Peace and prayers!

Sara--Make sure you add a Green bay Packer quote for your 40 year old fan. Have a great party, wish I would have known I would have sent the brats!

Or the 18 year old bottle of Scotch that dear friends brought for Greg's birthday gift!

It was a great party...and he was totally surprised!

I ended up printing off the "40 Thoughts" and tying them to the ends of 40 black balloons. Each guest picked up a balloon from a neighbors house when he arrived and so the house slowly started to fill with "color" as people trickled in...at about 20 balloons, Greg "got" it!

Thanks for making my suprise easier!

Peace!
