Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Famous Men of Greece

Famous Men of the Middle Ages

Famous Men of Rome

Any thoughts on these? Isabella is interested in all things history so are these textbooky or living?

Thanks for any help...

Living, not textbooky . They are available free online from the Baldwin Project so you can take a look and decide whether you want to buy them. Memoria Press have recently published new editions, which I'm told (I haven't seen them) are significantly better than the Greenleaf version, with high quality artwork.

Kathryn,

Is the text significantly different? I read their description that they edited the texts - have you (or anyone else) seen both this and the Greenleaf edition?

I have a couple of the Greenleaf books, but haven't seen the Memoria Press ones. I know someone who sells them here and he is switching from Greenleaf to Memoria Press. I'll ask if he knows how much difference there is in the text.

Bumping - I'm also curious to know if anyone has seen both versions and which is better.

The Memoria Press versions are very nice. Great illustrations. We really enjoyed both Rome and Greece.

Mine are published by Yesterday's Classics. I'm very happy with the publishing quality.

My ds, 11, who LOVES history has been reading Famous Men of Greece. His big gripe is that it uses the Roman names for the Greek Gods, and as he is also reading lots of other Greek God stuff, it becomes confusing. It gives a brief overview, but does not really go in depth. I would look at it as a jumping off point, but a fantastic overview to get anyone started.
