Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ack! Lately it seems all I want to do is spend any extra minute I have (or don't) in front of the computer. Mainly this forum. How do you Mom's discipline yourselves when it comes to "computer time"?

Ha! LOL!

I was saving this for Lent...

I'm kind of a "not-even-one-drink" kind of gal when it comes to being on the computer... or eating chocolate... or taking pregnancy tests... This week I've been busy coordinating an activity bag swap. Well, I've been on a lot during the day to check emails and such to see if anyone has questions and to organize/email out the activities and everything. Well, a quick mail check turns into checking blogs or facebook or whatever!! It's ridiculous.

I will say that when I follow my rule of not turning on the computer until the evening than I wake up and go through my day feeling very liberated and at peace and free to do what needs to be done around the house without feeling drawn to the INTERNET. I often take pit stops at the computer just to put off what needs/could be done in free moments, but just having the general rule about waiting til later in the day eliminates those stops.

oh, yes, dawn, ITA!

My big thing is so much gets communicated by email anymore. Like on Tuesday, is park day for our homeschool group. I have been trying very very hard to spend less time on the computer - getting on at night only is a huge help in that! - except on like Tuesday, DH was taking the kids to park day. After he left, I jumped on "real quick" to check my email and it seems it had been decided that morning that it was too cold for park day and it was rescheduled. I quick called DH so he didn't waste anymore time and gas driving over to an empty park. I almost feel like I have to do a quick morning email check. But then it is like, well, I may as well check the Sonlight Forum, oh, and 4Real, and see if oldest DD is on facebook - and before I know it I am sucked in and that is bad!!! Totally agree with the "not-even-one" personality.

I would love to go completely computer free for Lent, but ALL homeschool activities are done here by computer. :(

I am looking forward to seeing how others handle their computer time...

I wanted to try leaving the computer off until the evening but with older dc, it is hard because they need it during the day for writing or researching. It is hard, like Laura said, when the computer is needed for other things. It is so easy just to check in and get sucked in. I want a balance. I know I need some kind of time on the computer because I get lonely and feel antzy when alone with children all of the time, but I need limits. I think accountability is the key but I haven't figured out with whom. Maybe dh, but he tends to forget to check up on me for other things. Still thinking on this.
