I am having a somewhat difficult time in our Parish, due to a total lack of true Catholic teaching. I believe that his own personal beliefs are totally in line with the teachings of the Church, but he refrains from speaking out, to avoid any controversy or hurt feelings. He is a real softy. One thing he does speak out on is his "allergy against fundamentalism." That is fine with me, but not when he equates Catholic Orthodoxy with fundamentalism. He has described Mother Angelica as "nasty" and is suspicious if I mention a program advertised on EWTN. His feelings are strong against rigidity, which is what he thinks orthodox catholics must all be. Some days I cry after Mass, because of the missed opportunity to reach the people. Some days I think I have to change parishes, but I really don't know where it is better. I can't drive over to Ave Maria every Sunday. One way is a 2 hour trip. Some days I am close to despairing, because I see every day the ignorant people of our parish, who have no idea of the Glory of Her truth and will not find it at this pace.
When Father said that about Mother Angelica to me, it was such a blow. I just feel so helpless.
This is nothing to the burdens that many of you carry right now, and I don't want to sound whiny. This is just my cross at the moment.

I have no advice but want to offer prayers and sympathy. I have BTDT and we ended up finding a Traditional Latin Mass that is an hour drive one way. There just was nothing else. We have been doing this for 9 years. It was a difficult choice, but we couldn't take it. Some people can stay and try to change things; others must leave. Depends on your personality.

This can be such a hard situation to bear and one that is very common in many parishes today. In that sense as we struggle to find ways to be productive in the face of this challenge it is helpful to discuss in a forum like this.

I ask though that the discussion stay on specific productive and charitable approaches. The sacramental nature of Holy Orders requires we take care in regard to discussion and disparaging or inflammatory discussion of clergy in general or any priest in particular will not be permitted.

Lisa, I did find a Traditional Latin Mass nearby every 1st and 3rd Sundays at 1pm. I don't know if that is a guarantee for a solid Catholic homily, but we are willing to try.
Another thing is that we love Father F. We always sit in the first row of the 11am Mass and he so depends on our presence somehow. He loves our girls and is constantly praising them and their parents

. If it really comes to the point that we regularly attend another Sunday Mass, I just don't know what I would say to him. There is absolutely no hostility between us, just pain in my heart.

Dear Stephanie,
Why don't you and your husband pray over it and ask for God's direction on this matter? I am like Lisa. We were one of the "must leave" group that went to a traditional Mass. When you are raising children, it is of the utmost importance to guard their faith, and like Lisa, it has been at a cost. Our Sundays are spent driving several hours on the road. I hope you find peace whatever your decision is. Maybe others will have more helpful advice.

I am so uncertain. It is 8:30pm and I am not sure how tomorrow will look.
I may end up attending 2 masses.
