Do any of you Moms who have had several children become relaxed in your prental appointments? I am considering waiting until 16-18 weeks before my first appointment just to save me the hassle of the extra doctor appointments and ongoing questioning. I usually decline the AFP testing, so there isn't much before 18 weeks. If there were something wrong before then, is there anything the doctor could really do? Just something that I am thinking and wondering, and wanting to make a wise decision on. I prefer a natural, pro-life choice to prenatal care as much as possible.

Well, I call my midwife pretty much as soon as possible.. more to "get on her calender" because she's a very busy lady than anything. But her and I are both more relaxed about when appointments are.. and she knows I'll call if something does come up.. but it's a much more casual relationship than is typical if you're going through an office.

You are so lucky JodieLyn! I wish I could have a relaxed relationship with a midwife!! I go through the Army system and end up with c-sections. This will be my 7th, so homebirths, even midwife care through the Army is out. Boo hoo.

With my 5th we were pretty relaxed as well. I went for a few and not really any in the beginning. My midwife knew me pretty well so we were both comfortable with fewer appointments.

I don't usually go until around the beginning of the second trimester (12-14 weeks or so) which is what my midwives recommend.

With the exception of #1, I've never gone in until 4 months....sometimes 5. And then have been known to skip a few later on....  I do call my midwife a couple weeks into the pregnancy, only to give her the heads-up. I know i can call her if I have any questions, though, so that makes a difference. If she was hard to get ahold of or didn't like talking about things on the phone, it would be different.

I rarely go in before the 4th month.
If I go in anywhere, it's the ER/ob office for dehydration due to hmg sickies - they don't do anythign pregnancy related because I'm too sick.

I don't usually see the OB until I am past the AFP testing point...however, with that said, I am hypo-thyroid, and I realized with this last pregnancy, (baby number 8) that I really need to get in to see my endocrinologist right away after I realize that I am expecting.

I don't go in until after the threat of miscarriage is lower (because I have a history), which is around 12-14 weeks. However, I do contact my midwife before that and she reminds me to take my vitamins, rest, etc.

Well, God willing I should become pregnant again, I will be going to the midwife asap...after the loss in September, and having PCOS....and this would be my first delivery post-c-section (emergency, with the boys, after a trial of labor). So if nothing else, I want to be seen by *someone*--just so we get a record going/set up.
This will be my first post-Army care delivery...
