Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

As I posted on the unschool blog, this post came at the perfec time: we just had two days "off" school due to snow and had a blast learning when the kids didn't THINK they were "doing school"

I'm at funny stage at the moment. This year we've started a formal maths program which was great for the first couple of weeks. It really impressed the visitor from the Board of Studies. I have a 7yo and 5yo doing year 1. 7yo flying through, 5yo not so fond of writing things down, but enjoys the hands on stuff. But thinking about it - we pretty much unschooled maths up till now. Its unschooling that has prepared the older son to excel like that. The program is like a guide - not the source of wisdom, but just a channel. I have another visit coming up for the younger son's 6th birthday. I guess I can truthfully say we're continuing with the maths program. The unschooling approach does seem to make more sense to me though. It is amazing how just little short helps along the way does the job.
