My 13yo ds Nicky will be having surgery on Tuesday at 9 am for a Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis which in layman's terms is the cap at the end of his right femur that has slipped back and has to be attached to his femur by a long screw to keep it on. Evidentially it is a common surgery for boys 10-14 because of growth...sometimes the cap slips off at its weakest point (the growth plate). Most of the growth he will be doing will be from the ankles and knees and they don't think it will affect any future growth. Right now he is walking with quite a limp...his right leg is 2 inches shorter than the left! They say that this will disappear after he gets this thing fixed. Poor guy will be on crutches for 6 weeks.
Please pray for him and all involved. I pray there are no complications and everything goes smoothly.
I was just at that hospital last month for hernia surgery for my newborn...i surely don't want to be on their frequent family program

THANK YOU all so much for your prayers! Nicky is tickled pink to see that so many are praying for him! He goes into surgery at 9am so any prayers would be very much appreciated and treasured!

Poor little guy! ( 13 yo is still little to a mom) I will pray for the surgery to go well and for the doctor's hands to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
( hope the baby recovered too)

Oh no, Donna Marie...how did I miss this?
Well, by now Nicky should be out of surgery...I will funnel all my prayers into an uncomplicated recovery...and that you all get out of that hospital before you get your frequent family card punched!

Thank you all so much for your prayers for our ds Nicky. He did very well with his surgery and seems to be healing well. The day went so smoothly and the doctor and all involved were such lovely people. I know that all of this is largely due to all of your wonderful prayers! We all felt so lifted up in grace that day. Nicholas says thank you to all of you! Now we are just taking things slow as he manages his pain and we are appreciating the chance to wait on him a bit. Things like this really make you appreciate your young ones, don't they??
True to form, we could NOT pass up Barnes and Noble on the way home...it is a large one. Nicky had a chance to practice on his crutches there while he hunted down some of the latest books on lego mindstorms and mommy had a ball keeping the clerks on their toes hunting down books. I can hear it now..."oh no! HOMESCHOOLERS! I'm on break!"
Jen, I think we made a clean get-away...and we did grab a few pieces of chocolate as we fled the building...lol!...gotta keep things in perspective....

Yep, Nicky is still my little guy at 5ft7 and counting... And yes! Peter James did very well...thank you so much for asking. He recovered from his hernia surgery very quickly.
