Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

we've got the mylicon drops, which only seem to work for a short period of time

I do some tummy and leg massaging that helps for a few minutes

she just curls up, turns beet red, and screams her head off

she wants to nurse, but that just makes the cramping worse, so then she gets frustrated and in more pain

what do you ladies do for this?

Is it something in your diet? You might try switching to a very bland diet to see if that helps. So sorry for your sweet one!

Sounds like my daughter on dairy. Sorry! Hopes she's feeling better soon.

Personally, I've needed to give up half the known universe of foods, LOL. Most women do better giving up dairy. I also had an oversupply and overactive letdown problem which led to gas and other symptoms. For those I nursed only from one side for several hours, then switched to the other side for the next few hours.

I hope you can find something to help!

You may want to speak to your physician about acid reflux. They can do tests to see if she is having trouble swallowing correctly or if she has reflux.   I don't mean to alarm you but my son had the same symptoms and he had acid reflux but was unable to expel the reflux so it went back down into his lungs. Once we found out what the problem was we were able to correct it with medication, positioning, and different styles of nipples (not mine - a bottles    )

Good luck to you.

I use the homeopathic colic remedy, either the tablets or liquid. They do seem to help.

You can try a hot water bottle on her tummy, also.

Try an elimination diet. I cut out everything even suspect and slowly worked things back in.

I will pray for you. We went through months of colic with our little guy.

Is she spitting up a lot, also?

I'd start with dairy elimination, as that is common. That includes casein and whey. Many babies have dairy or soy protein intolerance at a young age, which looks like reflux.

We had to do the reflux medicine for both boys, and diet elimination.

THANKS! I knew there was something, but I couldn't remember what it was called.

It's not colic. It's absolutely gas pain and the ped dr says she's perfectly fine, just gassy.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I've never had a breastfed baby that spit up or had gas. I thought that was something that only happened with bottle fed babies.

*sigh* they all have to be different don't they?

So, I'm going to try the gripe water treatment for a couple days, if it works, I'll keep her on it for a couple weeks to see if her system adjusts to the my milk.

If it's not resolved by then, I'm going to cut dairy.
The entire time I was pregnant, I could barely even sip a cup of milk or even a lick of sour cream. I have an older child that had milk protein issues as an infant, but I thought it was because he wasn't breastfed. Oh well, guess maybe not.

She does spit up sometimes in the evening. I think it's the gassy cramping making everything tighten up and come up though.

thanks for the help ladies! She's gaining weight and everything, so I know it's not serious, but that screaming pain cry can really fry the mommy brain in no time flat.

This may sound lame after all the other comments, but as you nurse will she lie on her left side? That's the exit route for the large intestine, and when I have a gassy issue I always remember the advice from the Sears book about the I...L (love)..U (you) massage of the tummyI up the right side L across the top and U back down on the left and hopefully tooty toot toot!

With my 4th I also would lie him on his back and bring his legs up toward his head, kind of like a little snail.. That pressed a little on the LI and opened up the bowel and tooty toot toot! HTH. I still do this onmyself with a yoga position(I know TMI, but it's all in the name of comfortable tummies1)
