Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

and others too!

Santa brought me The Learning Calendar from Fat Brain Toys ... the 2009 edition focuses on inventions, inventors, etc. This is a great addition to our school as Thomas reads what happened on this day and we can explore further if it piques our interest or just say, "cool" and go from there.

Today, in case you were wondering, the Frisbee was invented in 1957!

The quote for January is from Maria Montessori:
Quote:

We especially need imagination in science. It is not all mathematics, nor all logic, but it is somewhat beauty and poetry.

We bought this one from rainbow Resources... all kinds of interesting tidbits in there. Louis Braille's birthday set us off on a rabbit trail.

Today is the clarinet's birthday. We listened to some clarinet music to celebrate

We had one two years ago and I think you just inspired me to get another one. My oldest really liked it then and I know he would love inventors and inventions!

Did you know that they also have an online version plus activities? I just found it while googling.

I've been eyeing this calendar for a little while so I'm excited to hear you all like it so much.

I've been using the monthly activity calendar at Enchanted Learning. Does anyone have an opinion on the comparison of the two? Do you feel the Learning Calendar from Fat Brain Toys is more geared towards older kids????

I had no idea they had this nice interactive one on their site, Charlotte!!! Thank you!!! I'm off to bookmark that treasure!

Ooo Charlotte -- I like that website ... I still like the wall-calendar, but having a site where you can type in any date/year etc is very cool!
