During the last few weeks of your pregnancy? I'm begining to feel like I don't even want to get dressed in the morning. I spent most of my weekend in bed reading books and formulating an after baby schedule. How much 'normal' activity, errands, chores, taxi-ing and such do you keep up in the final stretch?

It really depends on what is going on. I tend to do alot. But that's depend on two things.. that I feel well. And that I want to get things done. I much prefer to be busy. and since I have a range of 2 weeks pre-EDD to 4 weeks post-EDD.. that's a lot of time to wait and wonder when I can just be busy getting things done and staying on top of things.
But that said I also try and get a lot done in my second trimester so that third trimester is spent keeping up not working on more stuff.
and a lot depends on the time of year.. and what we're doing.
My early guy.. he's 4 now. We went to my bil's wedding on a Saturday (6 hrs away), drove home Monday, and I had the house nice before we left and was doing laundry on Tuesday to get caught up again as soon as we got home when labor started.. and he was born on Wednesday morning.. exactly 38 weeks. Now, that sounds weird to many but he was #6 and I'd had 5 that the earliest was still a couple days after 40 weeks.
But then last year the last month or so was barely keeping up. I just felt sooo physically tired. But I'd really pushed myself earlier in the pregnancy with getting sod and a brick patio (set in sand) laid in the backyard. And yes the kids and I did most of the work. DH's job kept him too busy and I wanted it DONE.
So it seems like it can go either way.. I just base it on how I feel and what I want to do (beyond the basics of keeping up)

Thanks Jodie. My last two babies came at 36.2 and 37.3 weeks. The five before that came during the 38th week. I'm just really really tired and achy.

I think any woman who is expecting baby number 10 is welcome to lie in bed and read good books, while her older children bring her warm tea and toast, at any point during her pregnancy!
Enjoy these last few days of your pregnancy...almost everything that we think needs our urgent attention, really doesn't.
Peace.

Oh Lisa, I am just 32 weeks and barely functioning. I was just recalling my earlier babies. With various babies, on the day I delivered I remodeled a bathroom, pulled up living room carpet, hosted a party for 30 and did a mega shopping for a family in crisis.
Now I can barely move. I just asked my husband to check his Wednesday schedule from now till the baby. That's my big carpool day. I don't even think I can manage that. Pathetic.
Rest dear, rest.

I always would tell people, when I reached 7 months, that was it. I set myself up on the couch or my recliner and that is where I would spend my days, especially for the last 4 kids.
Just take it easy and dream of your little blessing!!

I say rest, Lisa! I'm 38 weeks pregnant and my pregnancy thus far has been totally uncomplicated. I'm still feeling great, so I have been trying to keep up my usual routine. With pregnancy #1, I had to be induced at 42 weeks, so I may still have almost a month left here--so I want to use the time while I can. I'm still doing my morning walks and the usual cleaning. Nesting energy has been kicking in lately.
BUT if I *were* feeling tired, I would definitely slow down. I have cut back on errands because those are more physically taxing for me than around-the-house tasks. My husband barred me from any more requests at the library when he saw me on the way out the door with two full bags of books last week. He has also taken over some of the more physically demanding chores (changing the crib sheets, moving furniture, etc.).
As you know, Lisa, it's always best to listen to your body.

Lisa, sit down!!!
Girl, you could very well have a baby within the week, based on your history. If you have any energy after getting dressed, then use it fold cute newborn clothes and daydream about that babymoon. Otherwise, tuck into bed with good movies and books and *rest* up as much as you can.

I'm planning to rest more once I get to be full term. Now, at 33 weeks, I feel tired sooner than I do when not pregnant. I felt wiped out today after cleaning the kitchen floor, doing some laundry, and putting away the Christmas ornaments (and that was a sitting down job!). I laid down for about 30 min. after dinner and I feel better now...but I'm still doing something quiet--knitting a blanket for baby.
Once I get to be full term, even though the earliest I've ever delivered was 39 weeks, I will rest when I feel tired, if at all possible. Birthing is hard work. I know that I don't handle pain and stress well when I'm tired, too. So, it's important for me to stay well-rested so that I'm ready for D-day.
I'm looking forward to hearing news of your baby's arrival!
Dawn

I'm lame after about 32 weeks. And, the last month I'm pathetic. DH moves the laz-y-boy upstairs for the last 6 weeks and that's where I perch. I am exhausted after getting dressed.

THANK YOU all for sharing your experiences. I feel such 'pressure' (self induced, full of myself pride!) to do it all even now. I ran my last errand yesterday. We finished dinner at 6 and dh told me to go lay down, and I did - I fell fast asleep and didn't wake again until 4 am!! My body is indeed telling me to rest and I will listen.
Bridget, with my 8th, I made 3 Easter dresses and had her that night!! Still praying that I make it another week.

my earliest was one day 'overdue"- I've gone up to 2 weeks "late", but I seem to comes straight out of bedrest to not able to function well due to varicosities.
the last 6 weeks of my last 3 preg. I crawled on my hands and knees around the house- or otherwise mostly stayed put with my legs up.
I'd leave the house for appts and that was about it!
however, on the plus side, all that crawling helped two breech babies flip, and a posterior baby turn around!
Plus, I ended up delivering on hands and knees- no pressure.
praying for you. rest as much as you can. I do believe it will help you feel better after delivery!!

Lisa,
Thank you for starting this thread! The responses have made me feel so much better about all that I have not been doing. I keep waiting for that burst of energy for nesting, it doesn't seem to be happening. Right now the baby's 0-3 clothing is in a laundry basket - where it has been for a week since it was freshly laundered.
Keeping you in my prayers!
Blessings,

I have no advice for you, but to listen to your body. I have never been more than 35 weeks pregnant, and only with my first child, was not on bedrest. But I learned that total bedrest wasn't always needed, just being in tune with my body, and stopping when it was time to stop.
Good luck and enjoy this time. You are so blessed!

When I was pregnant with #4 we moved and I had a new mid-wife.. I was doing ok but by early afternoon I was falling asleep. We were in a hotel (as temporary housing) and I could lock the high lock on the door and turn on the tv for the kids and doze for a couple hours.
But my new midwife highly recommnended switching to a higher dose prenatal vitamin. I resisted.. I even bought a book (didn't have internet access at that time) that I'd heard really good things about to check it all out before I would take it.
But within a week of taking them.. I didn't even feel sleepy in the early afternoon let alone where I had been which was impossible to stay awake at that time.
I use NF Formulas PreNatal Forte. But I've heard people can get a similiar result from Rainbow Light Prenatal system (the 6 a day ones)

Jodie - you are inspired! I stopped my prenatal when I had the flu as everything was making me sick - and I did not want to to start it again as I so don't want to throw up. I guess I'd better start again.

Bumping this back up because I'm right back in the same spot again. 35 weeks on Monday and really dragging along. I do great in the mornings, but I'm thinking I'm going to need someone to take over my afternoon driving duties as I find myself really working to keep awake.
I was so embarrassed last week. I was waiting for my older kids to get out of their HEP classes and I totally fell asleep. My younger kids were no doubt being very loud and feisty in the back of the van, and I woke to find another mom at my window checking on me...I was out like a light, mouth hanging open and all...
I'm wondering if it's 'normal' pregnancy stuff to be fine in the am and then really bottom out after lunch? I am on a good prenatal regime, iron is slightly low but just about where I normally am. I hate feeling like the only 'solution' is birth.
