Hi Everyone!
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Bum Genius AIO organic cloth diapers. Any pros?, cons?
I have been pouring over the archives of cloth diapering here on the boards and I am trying to make a decision before our newest Blessing arrives.
And another thing. Am I crazy for trying this with baby number 7? I wish I would have looked into this earlier on with my other children. Thanks a bunch!Bum Genius AIO organic cloth diapers

I'm cloth diapering my two boys under two right now. I started out with prefolds and covers with a few Bum Genius pockets for nighttimes. I loved the idea of a more sophisticated stash but was trying to save money.
When #2 came along I guess my family accepted the fact that I was determined to cloth diaper and I received a dozen small Fuzzi Bunz for the baby, a 1/2 dozen medium Fuzzi Bunz for the toddler, and a dozen Bum Genius AIO organics. It is an embarrassment of riches to be sure.
I still think the BG pockets are the best for wicking away moisture and therefore are my go to diaper for nights and long car trips (double stuffed). The fleece on the Fuzzi Bunz seems to repel poop fairly well and the BG AIOs are easy to use on a wriggly kid and very absorbant but don't wick away moisture at all.
The pro of diapers with velcro is that they are easy to put on and Dad-friendly. The con is that even with being meticulous about using the laundry tabs, the velcro does get fuzzy after a while. The snaps (a la Fuzzi Bunz) don't have that issue but they are a little more complex. The prefolds are the easiest to launder and are so very versitile but they have the steepest learning curve IMO. They are also my go to diaper when baby has diaper cream on which can ruin cloth diapers.
I'd recommend getting a sample of one of each of the diapers you are considering and a few prefolds to boot. You'll figure out what works best for your family and little one. Oh, and as long as you don't go overboard with buying designer dipes, you'll still save money even if you only end up with one little one using cloth.

Thank you Susan, you have given me much to think about. I really have not read anything negative about the Bum Genius, so thanks for sharing that info about the AIO and wicking away moisture. Who would have thought cloth diapering was so complex !!
So for prefolds it is the 1-2 prefolds and then a diaper cover right?

I have not used BG AIO's yet. I have 4 in the newborn stash, so I will be able to review in the next two weeks! :)
I have used nearly every diaper/cover combination out there, (I've been cloth diapering non-stop for 14 years now!!) and I always fall back on prefolds in either a woolie soaker or a Bummis snap wrap. Prefolds really are the best route I think.

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but for a starter tryout, I'd get 6 prefolds and a cover, a BG AIO, and one of any other diapers you are considering. That would give you enough to cloth diaper for a full day without using back up disposables to give you an idea of what it would be like.
As far as if I had it to do over again, like Lisbet, in addition to some BG, I'd still have a big stash of prefolds and covers...they are just so economical and versitile (burp cloth, diaper, heavy duty wet wipe, etc.)

Thanks Lisa and Susan! I guess my question was with the prefolds. When diapering baby I would take one prefold, fold it, insert it in the cover and then put it on the baby or do I take two prefolds, fold it and then put on cover and then on baby?
I did end up ordering a sample pack with a Fuzzi Bunz, Bum Genius, Kissaluv, 2 prefolds with a Bummis, and then I found a Bum Genius 3.0 at Target the other day, so I snatched that up. I guess cloth diapering must be getting popular if Target is carrying them! I think I might need a few more of something to really try out cloth diapering. Thanks so much for your help, I am sure by trial and error I will figure it all out.

Oh I get it now. You typically only use one prefold at a time. You can either fold it in thirds and lay it inside a cover and put the cover on the babe or (what I do) use pins or a snappi to put the prefold on the baby and then put on the cover. I find that if the diaper is secured there is less chance of getting poop on the cover meaning it doesn't need to be washed as often. I airdry covers as necessary but only wash when soiled. There are a few different types of folds (angel wing, newspaper, bikini twist) and you'll figure out which works best for you and your baby as you go along.
It sounds like you have a nice sample stash going! I can't believe Target had BGs!

Kristen,
You can use one or two, depending on how much absorbancy you need. I use two at night on a bigger baby. You will have much more bulk with two, keep that in mind. Also, you can fold in thirds either lengthwise or width wise, depending on where you need the most absorbancy too. Another thing you can do to add absorbancy without much bulk is use a doubler or an infant/preemie prefold inside a bigger one.
