What are you reading for yourself for the New Year? I am starting with Little Women for myself and I am looking for a good saint/relgious book to read too. Any suggestions?

I just picked up How to Read a Book and I've been slowly working through Fathers of the Church. What I'm really trying to add to my daily reading is ESPN.com though.
We're listening to Little Women which I'm really enjoying.

I'm reading Kristin Lavandsdratter by Sigrid Unset and "The Life of Mary as seen by the Mystics" by Raphael Brown. The LIfe of Mary has certainly given me a lot to think about!! Great reading!

I just finished up Our Lady of Fatima by William Thomas Walsh after some glowing recommendations on this forum. I LOVED it and couldn't put it down. It really left me feeling like I can't get enough of the Blessed Mother. I'm on to another one and will post that one when I finish!

How about.....Blessed Margaret of Castello
Or, Shower of Heavenly Roses. (St. Therese) I started this the other day and it is so good, I can't put it down.
I just started A Gathering of Angels, Katherine Valentine, the other day. It's just what I need!
I'm also in the middle of French Women Don't Get Fat which is surprisingly good (and funny).
Up next is The Virginian and Marie-Therese: Child of Terror, the fate of Marie-Antoinette's Daughter

I just started reading the Sacrament of the Present Moment by Jean-Pierre de Caussade.
I also hope to read Teaching Your Own by John Holt and Pat Farenga and Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn. These three will make a good start for the year's reading.

Well I'm in the midst of Mother's Rule of Life.
I have Pope Fiction that I pick up periodically and Eucharistic Miracles for that as well.
But then we found the song Christmas Pipes by Celtic Woman this Christmas and there's just something about the scottish feel that was pulling up the little fictional bits that I've read here and there over the years and I really wanted to read more.. but what? I'm sure most of those bits were from romances that I no longer read.. I have no way of really finding what I want.. but as the only option I had on hand.. I reread the Martha years Little house books
Finished those last night and I'll be back to more serious topics now.

Oh, Jodie......have you read The Celtic Stone by Michael Phillips??? IT is wonderful..........there are TWO volumes....and we REALLY like the second........esp when the story of Saint Magaret of Scotland comes up.
It is a novel....... of the future Scotland.........intertwined with the telling of Scotland's history, from the very beginning......but all written in novel form. It actually TOOK us to Scotland.........so that when we were not reading it......we felt like we were in a timewarp......not really in our own world.
hope that made sense.

All libraries should have them......either the author, or the publisher is from Oregon, as an aside.
These books are safe for teens...........it was a teen who lent it to me. My two oldest read them as teens. And, loved them.
They are FAT and go on foever...........silly me thought there were THREE volumes. I was SO disappointed when the story wrapped up in the second.........when I was expecting a third.
