For those of you who live in a colder climate.....
Dealing with snow, ice, slush, bitter cold,etc....while stepping out into the world-doing errands, attending Mass and church events....what type of boots do you wear? Where did you find them?
I only have an ugly pair for walking the dog, taking kids sledding,etc...they are about 12 yrs old.I am sick of them, and looking for a pair that I can wear out and about-even Mass.
Is there such a kind?
Thank you, for any replies!

don't fall over at the price.. I expect these to last me YEARS.. plus I got them on sale plus when I got them I went through ebates..
Merrell Spire Peak boots
These work nicely on snow and ice, our temps have been in the negative numbers lately. I don't use them for heavy walking through stuff.. the ice can damage the leather and these are so nice looking I tend to keep them for around town and Mass and wear my old worn ones for playing in the snow or such.
They fit to the calf tightly (that neoprene up the side) so you can wear them under pants and they look great with skirts. But they fit too tightly to wear the pants tucked inside.. but then I mostly do that for going out and playing in the snow and I use my old boots for that.

I've got Cabela's hiking boots and Sorrel's. I bring a pair of shoes with for Mass. We've got so much snow that you need to have ankles covered. Currently it is -20, so looks like it will be a Sorrel-day!

I got to go shopping in a REAL store with my best friend while in Colorado. She's due in April so needed to pitch her heeled boots and her Uggs wouldn't do for a real winter (Fl Keys vs. Colorado ) being nothing more than a glorified slipper. So at Dillards of all places we found these incredible boots for $99. I couldn't find them online at Dillards, only at Zappos which is cool because you must click alternative views and check out the sole. I was sold right away!

There are some links from this thread last year, hopefully the links still work...suggestions for boots
And, how I just cannot NOT link to the mega-thread-of-all-threads Tights? Boots? Modesty? when it's cold?. Only when you have a "moment", of course....

We're only in VA but to me it seems bitter. Anyway, I considered both the boots that Jennifer and Jodie linked during my boot shopping, but I decided that once Christmas is over, I'm going for some keen boots. Those will be for everyday.
I just had these black boots from Hanna Andersson reheeled. I've had mine for about 3 years. They are not super warm, and if I walk all day, I wish I had a squishy insole. However, I think they look very classy and look nice with my church clothes, and at $75 right now! I wear them if them weather is bad enough to require boots, but if it's icy but not slushy, I choose my crocs or my running shoes.

nice boots.. I love knee high boots for winter..
I picked the ones I linked to above because they're insulated and waterproof I wasn't real sure on the traction.. but they have turned out to work really well.

LOL, Rachel. I'm not keen on the keen. I didn't expect that to be the brand name.

I was inspired by Rachel's boots and bought some Rockport boots from LLBean, similiar in style, but they don't have them anymore. These I wear with skirts.

Thank you, Ladies!
Suzanne, I read *all* of the links-thank you!!
I ended up getting a pair of ankle Sporto dress boots-can be worn with skirts,pants,etc...I think they are called the "Maggie". They look nice, and are waterproof, and have non-slip bottoms! Yay!!
I also scored a pair of Merril's clogs,at TJMaxx-and waterproofed them. They are lined with a furry-type of lining, and have a tough,non-slip bottom. Sooo comfortable!!
I am set for a few years!
