... Christmas/winter picture books. Around here, we vote for Jan Brett... her Christmas Treasury is a great, oft-used book around here at this time of year.
So, who is YOUR favorite author/illustrator for this time of year?

Tomie dePaola. We love using Elizabeth's integrated Advent unit, which relies heavily on his Christmas books. Jan Brett's books are lovely, too- we read those a lot!

Both Tomie and Jan (we're on a first name basis .)
Recently I revisted Brett's coloring pages. Lovely.
Love,

Now, that's ecumenical!
I'm always so surprised at how much she has on there for folks to use ... it's just an amazing mix of great stuff!

This is a hard question. I'd have a much easier time answering this about individual favorites. Besides Jan Brett and Tomie dePaola, I can't think of that many authors that even have more than one or two Christmas/winter books. There are authors I love that have a couple, but not that I associate with a plethora of Christmas books.
So if I had to pick one that would answer the question it would probably be Jan Brett.
But some other favorites though they may only have a couple books:
Leo Politi - love his books!!! They are hard to find because they are mostly out of print. He has several that focus on the Christmas season though -- great stories, they have a faith/Catholic element as well as focus on cultural traditions - mainly Hispanic.
Margaret Wise Brown has several we enjoy.
John Speirs - mainly The Donkey and the Golden Light and The Little Boy's Christmas Gift.
For Winter books (some with Christmas), Mary Azarian is my favorite.

Mary
I meant to go back and write a comment on your blog post. I'm afraid that we find Jan Brett sweet but all that snow is kind of hard to relate too. Well for starters we've never seen snow, and Christmas Day is generally hot. So hot we always plan to have cold meat and salads.
So my vote is Max Lucado and Tomie dePaola. I love the Catholicism in Tomie's books atlhough his artwork had to grow on me. Max Lucado isn't Catholic but his stories are a different, take on the Christmas story. We have The Crippled Lamb and Jacob's Gift. We love that one.

Tasha Tudor is another favorite, of course. I love the DVD about how she lived during Christmastime: Take Peace. We borrowed it from our library and loooooved it.

I am going to put a vote in for Ruth Sawyer - she is a true storyteller!
In addition to "Make Way for Christmas" which has been mentioned in a couple of other threads this years I found two wonderful picture books -
Remarkable Christmas of the Cobbler's Sons
and
The Wee Cabin of Carn-Na-Ween
I found very inexpensive quality copies of these books at alibris. Both picture books have Wee Folk characters in them so if that's not your thing you won't like these but if you do they are worth a look. Strong underlying Christmas values and message. Beautiful illustrations - the "cabin of Carn-Na-Ween is more suited to an older child who still likes picture books while "The Cobbler's Sons" is a somewhat younger book.
The beginning of the Cobbler's sons begins with the "Carol of the Cobblers" very sweet (no music score though - just stanzas - we/ll have to make up our own tune).

Thanks for mentioning some more books by Ruth Sawyer...is she Catholic. We are reading a journey type Advent book as well as Make Way for Christmas but I really don't find the children as "hooked" with it as Ruth Sawyer...she writes so beautifully !

I don't have a favorite, but one author we have enjoyed, especially in winter, is Ezra "Jackets".
