Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Embarrassing question, but I know you all will help me anyway.

O Come O Come, Emmanuel is always sung during Advent.

I'd like to teach my children all of the words to hymns that are sung during Advent.

Last night, at our parish Nativity Lighting, we sang Angels We Have Heard on High, Away in a Manger, We Three Kings, and Silent Night (English & in German).

We did well, but could certainly spend time going over the lyrics.

I think the Hallelujuh Chorus is one for the Christmas Day Mass.

Any other songs we MUST know?

Thank you!

Don't be embarrassed, Michaela. The best way to learn is play some music cds. Or play on the piano the Christmas carols. Repetition is how we all learn. We know the hymns because we've heard them 40+ years; they haven't.

Advent hymns are harder to find on recordings. I've got a few ideas of some Need-to-know hymns, but I'm short of time right now. This was something I was working on for our house -- a little binder of songs for Advent and Christmas for us to sing and learn. But I'm still in the beginning stages....
