We are trying to figure out what to do about my husband's company Christmas party. It is in a couple of weeks, just a few days before Seth's first birthday. It will be a semi-formal dinner with about 25 people. The dinner, from start to finish, is a few hours long. The company pays for each employee to stay in the hotel where the party is. This is something we look forward to every year!
We were hoping to find someone who could watch Seth in the hotel room while we attend the party. That way I could sneak off to nurse him if he needs me. We haven't had any luck with finding someone, though. My mom will have the other kids and has offered to keep Seth, but he doesn't eat or drink anything, he just nurses and still wakes up often at night.
Do I just throw Seth in a sling and hope that he is quiet and peaceful at the dinner? He isn't walking, but I am sure he will want to crawl around.
Dh would be so disappointed to not be able to stay at the hotel that night. Besides, I don't like the idea of Seth spending the evening with my mom and the other kids, even if it's just for several hours. He nurses on demand and I am afraid that everyone will be miserable!
Anyone know of a responsible young adult around the DC area who likes to babysit and doesn't mind driving in DC at night?
What would you other attached moms do?

Honestly, Molly, I have BTDT-EXACT situation...right down to the hotel room!
We didn't have family in town, so I brought our little nursling. Yes, it cramped our freedom and was ,at times, downright distracting, but we did it,and I would do it over again,if I was given the same choices to make.
Good luck with your decision, and I hope you have a lovely evening either way! ( We were a definite threesome...mommy,daddy, and baby in sling!)
Edited,as I accidently hit the LOL smile!

BTDT too. *sigh*
I wouldn't bring a 1-year-old to a semi-formal dinner like that. Unless you're sure that he would sleep, and whoever is throwing/hosting the party said that would be fine. Twenty-five people is a very intimate party. I would probably only bring a 0-6 month old to something like that.
OR......Can you keep him awake throughout the day, then, check into the hotel, nurse, and then see if he falls asleep in the sling? If he does, then attempt to go to the dinner. If he stays asleep....great...then it's fine. But as soon as he starts to wake up, I would excuse myself and just enjoy the peace and quiet in the hotel room. As a courtesy, I'd still check with the powers-that-be ahead of time to see if this option (sleeping child in a sling) is an OK option.
If staying overnight in the hotel were imp. to my dh, then I would probably just stay in the hotel room with the child, during the dinner and then just stay overnight.
Praying for you to find a sitter that night....
