Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello! I'm delurking again to ask for help for shopping for my wife. For clothing. Private clothing. And yes, as a male, I am distinctly not qualified for this kind of shopping. But hey, it's what she needs and if it makes her happy...

So, I'm looking for slips. Half-slips for the long skirts she likes to wear. Preferably not something that's 100% nylon (too hot in summer) or 100% cotton (bunches up the skirts). So my questions are:

  • What kind of material should I be looking for? Poly-cotton blend of some kind? Silk?

  • Where can I shop for them? (Online, please! I dare not walk into a physical store.)

  • Trickiest of all, where can I find long, modest slips that are preferably not slitted? Something around 36" would be about right, but that seems to be an uncommonly long length that I haven't yet found.

Thanks to anyone who takes pity on a poor husband!

I cannot help with where to find it, but my favorite winter slip is a flannel backed satin slip which I made. The flannel is warm against the skin and the satin allows the skirts to slide. Maybe you could find a seamstress to help you?

That is all I've been able to do here - sew them.... I am guessing that locating a seamstress to make them specially would make the gift that much more meaningful :)

I googled for you and found this site

I don't know anything about them but they do have half slips.

(My sister sent me mine from Canada)

Thanks to all who replied! Maybe some custom-made products are the solution. I had a quick look at herroom.com and jcpenny.com, but could only find slips that were quite a bit shorter than my wife wants, or were long but with huge side slits. *sigh*

Ah well. Thanks again! Now I need to hunt down a seamstress...

Oh, one other question for you, mavmama. Is that something you designed for yourself, or are patterns for that kind of thing available (so I could take it to someone in the church who might be able to assemble it)?
