My kids and I made these fall candleholders for our Thanksgiving table.
They are very easy to do and your kiddos will be so proud to see their art work on your dinner table  .

What all do you do to decorate the Thanksgiving table?
Any festive or symbolic centerpiece ideas?
~Or is there even room with all the food...

Oh, this is a great thread, Mary! I'm glad you revived it.
Our Thanksgiving plans were redirected.  I have kids coming down with a stomach virus and in various stages of it. So...no traveling to family for us. Would you believe it - in my entire 20 years of marriage, we've never been home...at our house...for Thanksgiving?  I've never made my own Thanksgiving dinner!
So, we're making the best of it and I went shopping this morning to quickly grab things to make a Thanksgiving dinner for those that can eat. As well as restocking my viral comfort kits! 
For a simple autumn table centerpiece I grabbed one of my baskets and filled it with some simple squash and mini-pumpkins we picked up from the pumpkin patch this year. They look festive all settled and arranged in the basket. Then I had my 4 yo go out and gather some of the prettiest red leaves from the October Glory Maples in our yard that have lost all their beautiful leaves. She arranged the bright red and burgundy leaves around the squash and little pumpkins. It looks very pretty! I'm going to set out my beeswax candles around the arrangement because the smell is so lovely.
That's it for us! I'd love to hear of other ideas for table centerpieces!

Jen, your quick centerpiece reminded me of the year we spent Thanksgiving with my dh's family in Branson, MO in a rented house. The oven was so teeny-tiny that a turkey barely fit. My mil took my kids (only 2 of them at the time, and they were little) outside to gather pear branches which we put in a glass for a centerpiece. The dark red leaves were gorgeous. I think we also had some pine cones in a bowl. It was all so simple, quick, (and free), but I think it's probably also the Thanksgiving table I remember best.
This year I'm trying to get used to being at someone else's house for Thanksgiving again... but since I have to make all my own gluten-free versions of Thanksgiving food to bring, I kind of feel like I'm "really" doing Thanksgiving anyway!

We have some leaves we dipped in beeswax last week, left over from the projects. I think I'll do something with those and maybe a Japanese maple branch. Really, I find the food often takes up most of the space!

Love how colorful those ideas sound ladies.
Yes, Lindsay, it often does take up too much space and it ends up needing to be moved anyway. But I love the look of a focal piece. I pinned this one that I really like:

So without using a large focal centerpiece ~ what other ideas do you have for making the table festive, without using too much space?
Does anyone do name card or placards at place settings? That is something my kids have always enjoyed doing.
And I thought this turkey idea of gourd w/ napkin for each place setting was cute. I wish I had lots of gourds.

We have so many smallish pumpkins through out the house that we just gathered a few and combined them with two pretty soft decorative pumpkins. I tried to layer them by putting one on an upside down cup in the middle. The kids added a few pine cones and some red and yellow leaves they gathered at the park today and some craft leaves left over from our pin board project.
Very simple, but I'm pleased. This is our first Thanksgiving at our house with both sides of the family coming I'm a little nervous  and excited

We are almost the opposite. In 27 years of marriage we have almost always spent it at our house, so I have hosted 3/4 of the time. Since we live so far away have only spent it with our family 4 times I think, and maybe 2 or 3 times at a friends' house. Usually we have friends here.

We were at our own house, too, this year, for the first time in a long time. It was lovely! Just us.
My centerpiece was pretty simple: a ceramic pumpkin that used to have a candle in it, surrounded by pinecones and four funky little glass artichoke dishes that were my grandmother's, and that I can't figure out what to do with other than put candles in them. I had candles in Mason jars surrounded by pinecones on top of the one cabinet, and more pinecones on the windowsill. Meanwhile, my mother has been moving and cleaning out her closets and cabinets, which has meant that I've inherited some pretty silver pieces to grace my holiday tables this year -- it was nice to have a chance to use them. And silver polishing kept my restless elves busy all morning.

I know it is past, at least for this year  but, hey this one is really fun. Who has a LEGO maniac at their house who would be up for the challenge?
