Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think I've forgotten how to do this... We have lived here for 8 years. I have stuff I haven't unpacked since we came here.

Stupid me... I have moved over 30 times in my life before now, but I can't think clearly about what to do first.

Blessedly, we aren't being pushed to move out in a rush. We will still own this house, and will eventually rent it out. So we can move a wee bit at a time. But there is much to be done on both sides, and Christmas and babe somewhere in the middle.

I'm going to start by making lists. That's what the Organazi does. She makes lists first. I suppose I'll be going into the new house and giving it a thorough clean - you know, with my own soaps and rags and things. Then we'll paint. But... then what? ROFL!

Advice? Prayers?

Blessings,

Nissa,

Praying for you as you organize your move. I would make a big list and then just START on something, probably the things you don't have to use like stored items or china etc. I would keep out all the essentials of each room, and then just start packing while trying to label each box for the room it will go in when "you get there". I hope it goes well! I think when we are overwhelmed by a huge task, AND have children thrown into the mix so it actually matters what we pack away or not, then it is best to just do a little bit each day and try to stay organized in the process.

I'm not familiar with the other lady, but I think FLY lady has moving suggestions too!

Ugh! I hate moving! But, the potential of a new space and all the lovely corners of a new space is terribly exciting!

I think Kim offers great suggestions, Nissa. Just think about those things that are essential to the daily routine. Plan simple menus during moving week to eliminate all but a few kitchen items. Don't sacrifice on nice boxes, that wrapping plastic (I don't know what you call them - it's a roll of plastic wrap on a wand - I use it for absolutely everything and then when you remove it there is no tape residue. I've seem them at Lowe's and the UHAUL store), and sharpies. Do you have a garage? If you do, I'd pack a box, label it and start stacking it in the garage. This makes moving day so much more streamlined.

Set out a nice canvas bag for each of the children to pack a few clothes in and pack their rooms. It's like Christmas all over when they unpack their belongings.

Pack one room at a time with the kitchen packed up last and unpacked first. It's easiest to just start. This is a wonderful time to purge! As you pack belongings, set aside a pile in the garage of items to donate. I just love the fresh start of unpacking the belongings and settling comfortably into delightful new spaces. It is such a drag at first though. Sending prayers - do be careful lifting with the wee one!

Declutter. We're moving next summer and we've already started doing it.

Praying the move goes well.
