Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am only homeschooling my oldest this year. Anne is 9 and is a very strong reader. She reads all the time and narrates wonderfully.

She doesn't want me to read aloud to her anymore She says she would rather read the books to herself. Since her sisters aren't at home, I can't use them as an excuse to read books aloud ( I read aloud to them at bedtime).   Is there anything I can do? Does anyone else have a child that has rejected you in this way?

I'm just a little sad. We still curl up on the couch together, but we are both reading our own books. Somehow it's just not the same...

Jennifer............I would insist that you read one book together....one over her reading level, if that is possible.

Andrew Pudewa, for one, encourages parents to keep reading out loud to their children, even through their high school years. Maybe somewhere on his website you could find his views and the reasons behind them.

I would just say it is one of our homeschool requirements.........30 minutes of reading out loud together......and if need be.......say al the reasons why.

She might get over this if you just keep on reading......

I have no opinion on what you should do, if anything.
However, some people just hate being read to, even if they love to read themselves. I do. My dh does. We can't even stand audio books. I have a couple kids like that too. Once they can read on their own, they dislike being read to. It's not personal, there's just something about it that grates on the nerves for some.
