Please pray for a dear friend and her family. At a routine checkup, they discovered no heartbeat. D&C tomorrow. She was 17 weeks along and this baby was conceived after 7 years of trying.

We'll offer up our family prayer tonight for your friend and her family. I'm so sorry.

I will pray for them Elizabeth. Could anyone reading this also include my friend Joanna in your prayers for Elizabeth's friend? She just lost a baby, whom they'ven named Daniel, at almost the exact stage. She has 11 living children and this is her second loss since having her youngest. What's so sad, too, is that the hospital referred to the baby as "tissue" .

The doctor who did my D&C did that too...
When I wrote to Kim to tell her about this baby--at 17 weeks--she reminded me of what a D&C would do to the baby. Would somebody tell me if I should talk to my friend right now about induction? I don't want to intrude or to make this more painful, but we're talking a fully formed baby here, unless there has been significant disintegration...Right?

Oh, I'm praying too. How terribly sad. I hope it's some tiny comfort for the parents to know that all of us are praying, but I know from friends how devastating this loss is for them.

Well, if she's Catholic, I would try to bring it up. Induction might help her with the grieving process, possibly giving more of a sense of closure. Also, they might be more inclined to have a Mass and burial.
I will also pray for you, Elizabeth. It can be so difficult to be a friend in these situations, but I know God will give you the right words.

Yes, the baby is fully formed and beautiful. I lost my baby this spring around 9 weeks gestation and was blessed to have him (or her) at home. The doctor had told me (through ultrasound) that the baby had already been absorbed, but boy was he wrong! I don't know if the ultrasound would be more accurate with a larger (17 week old). As for me, I'm so glad that he told me that I didn't need to schedule a D&C right away -- I got to hold my tiny baby!
I will keep both of these moms in my prayers.
Jen

Another thing you may want to discuss with her is her plans for the little baby. My friend's fully formed almost 20 week fetus (a.k.a. "tissue" per the hospital) would have been "disposed of" by the hospital. A Catholic nurse told her to not let anyone at the hospital have the baby. The dad held the baby the whole time so that they can give him a proper burial.

I'm saying prayers for this family. We lost a little one at 17 weeks also. We named her Regina Marie (for Our Lady), she is buried near her great-grandmother.

My heart breaks for all who have lost a baby. I know from personal experience how devastatingly horrible it is. I will hold your friend and her family in prayer tonight, Elizabeth. And I will also pray for all who have lost a baby.
