I am in the process of cleaning out our digital picture files and I don't know what to do with all of the nature pics I have taken from local nature walks or the flowerbeds or the backyard birds that we have identified. These are not "family pictures" and they do return every year so I don't know if I should keep them or not. I know this seems silly, but I really am stuck here. I thought about slurping them into a nature book for the year but have never done that before. Any suggestions?

Dear Charlotte;
Do your children keep a nature journal at all, or a sketch book perhaps? I used the bulk of my nature photos with the children to use in theirs. Their journals were a blend of pressed natural items under clear contact sticky paper, sketches, and scrapbooking (sort of) with the photos and a bit of journaling underneath. I even gave them appropriate stickers to use to decorate their photo areas. These are absolute treasures around here and they made use of all the photos in a good and memorable way. As the children have aged, upon occasion I'll see one of them browsing their old beloved books and speak of the times they went on a hike, to a zoo, whatever, in the photos represented there.
Another possibility;
-Upload a photo book online with them and make one lovely family book to keep with a bit of journaling and use it as a reference book when desired. Take it out upon occasion and ask; "Do you remember where this was?" , "Do you remember what this is called?".. and other leading questions to inspire conversation around nature topics.

Those are great ideas. And I probably need to do more of that. Our nature study so far as been pretty informal. We see a bird, we take a picture, we try to identify it. I haven't done any sketching with my kids yet because they haven't really had an interest in it. For the special occasions like a trip to an out of town zoo or a trip to a special nature site, of course I want to keep those. What is perplexing me are the pictures from the places that we frequent regularly like the local zoo or the nature trail in the neighborhood or even the flower beds that we see every year.

Mostly I let them sit in my computer.
I was just thinking about making prints of them to hang up, though. I'm better at outdoor and nature shots then portraits and indoor ones. I really should do something with them.
Thanks for the nudge - and the ideas!
Blessings,

My sister uses hers for cards - she just adheres one to the center of a blank card.

I like the card idea!!
My daughter and I worked on a Nature scrapbook. I just used scraps of colored paper, some stickers and let her write the names of the flowers, insects. She really enjoyed this! (she's almost 7yrs.) So, hopefully we will update our scrapbook every so often!
I took pictures, here they are on my blog:
