I know that first confessions don't usually have the same celebratory mode that first communions do. But still...I was wondering what ya'll do to mark the day, besides the actual going to confession part. Any special traditions?

For a few years now, I've been giving a special 1st Penance gift. I buy special bath supplies: soap or shower gel, shampoo, scrunchie or washcloth, bath crayons or salts or bubbles, depending on the child. In the card I make the connection between cleaning our bodies and cleaning our souls.

A few years ago I found a bar of Dead Sea mud soap at Target--perfect for boys! I haven't seen it again, but just googled and found lots of sources on line:

I can't vouch for any of these sites yet, but plan to place an order soon, as there are several 1st Penances coming up. I'll try to remember to pass on the results.

Our parish has an ice cream sundae "party" afterward. And it seems to be enough to mark the day as special with something that is tangible and fun to them.

They usually all go during CCD so there's not enough time for a "party" but they get to put together a sundae and eat it.

Our parish has the 3rd grades host a brunch after First Reconcilliation. I am grateful that I will not have to do anything
