Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope it's OK to post this here but I just wanted to let it be known that another Mom and I have started a yahoo support group for Catholic parents of children with type 1 diabetes.

We have found difficulty on secular support groups (especially in regards to things like embryonic stem cell research ) and we really felt the need for a place of support as we deal with this disease and live our Catholic faith in accord with the teachings of the Church.

If you have a child with this disease please join us. If you know someone else who does please pass the message on.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/CatholicT1

Thanks!

ETA: FYI it is a private group with membership requiring approval.

Michele, I hope you find many people to join to help you in this journey. It's so helpful to find people who are going through the same thing.

Michelle

I was wondering if the group is strictly Catholic? My very close (Christian) friend's son was diagnosed with T1 a couple of months ago. There is no way she would support stem cell research. She is actually combining treatment with natural methods, diet etc She may not even be interested as her computer time is limited.

I'll also pass the word to another Aussie Catholic mum I know in the same boat.

Erin,

It's open to ANY T1 parent who would like to participate provided they abide by the guidelines.

We are 100% faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and her teachings. Sincere questions about Catholicism are certainly welcome and theology and doctrine are always on topic, but we cannot allow discussion that does not reflect the authentic teachings of the Church.

If they can handle that they are welcome.

This is a good idea, Michele.

I have been praying mightily for your family. My mother's heart is worrying with yours, my friend.

I'm not a parent, just a wife.
but I think it's a great idea.
my dh has been type 1 since age 5 and some of the T1 boards are not pro-life b/c they believe fetal stem cell research might give a cure one day. Not very many folks there open to life, much less abundant life for a T1 man with nearly 9 children.
Because you know, doesn't he know he is risking passing that curse on to one of our kids?
