Ds would like to know if it is a sin for a policeman to kill a criminal.
I gave him my best answer, and told him I was not sure it was even correct, and I would check it out. Pretty much that I thought, and I might be wrong, that once you consider the policemen try their best to NOT have to use their guns and they need to protect other citizens, it might be a venial sin.
Could someone a little more knowledgeable help me out?
We were reading our chapter in the Baltimore Catechism about venial and mortal sins.

The policeman shoots a criminal to protect others who are innocent and that is not considered a sin.. just as killing someone to save your own life is not a sin.
