Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, I have loads of books and we have enough to get by. However, my children's proclivity is to find the most obscure and hardest to guess saint for the All Saints Party - with the idea that they have succeeded if no one is able to guess their saint. I am going along with this with a few requirements - they have to give me a good reason for picking the saint besides the name is unpronouncable, they are obscure and little known (ie easier to write about and hard to guess), and the costume is easy to make. My idea is to make them find a bit more than our little OOp book has on the saint or the tidbit in an on-line CHC offering. Plus, I'd love to see some pictures so we have some idea how to do the costume. So far we have Pope St. Stephen (and sssh Jennifer or my kids will be very upset with me letting the secret out of the bag) and St. Joseph Calsanctius, Blessed Edward Kazmierski (how to pronounce the last name on this one, I think we have enough on the rest but would like more details of his life if possible). The rest are more straight forward - though I have yet to be informed on what our daughter has up her sleeve. At one time there were some on-line places to search by saint. I'm having trouble finding these and it seems all the other things have changed.

Their secret is safe with me, Janet!

Try looking here on the saints index.

This is the link to their alphabetical listing of saints. Just glancing I saw several Stephen's to look through. That's a start anyway...don't tell, but we're researching for St. Jane Valois!

Can't wait to see you guys Friday!

Thanks Jennifer. That covered everyone but the Blessed. Here at least the costume is simple as they were laymen - though members of the Salesian oratory at their arrest. (There was a group of them).

Edited to add a thanks to Jodielyn on pronunciation. We'd guessed correctly, it seems. I'm still looking for more information on him. Thanks.

Janet

A few years back my hubby and oldest found a saint who used to be a pirate. Now my little guy wants to be him and I cannot find him on any of the sites. We thought it was cuthbert/Guthbert...anyone know of a piratey saint out there?

That's great! I also found Saint Eoghan who was captured and enslaved by pirates.

Saint Olaf II who was a Viking Pirate.

Saint Maughold
