Dear all,

I am pregnant with our 8th child and struggling a little with what this means...DH and I are thrilled of course, but life is so hectic that I am finding it hard to feel joyful if that makes any sense. Also, with negative comments from family with previous announcements, I am happy to not announce as such but wait till it's pretty obvious! as I am feeling like I may say some uncharitable things this time around. My DH wants to share our good news. Prayers would be appreciated.... and any advice on whether it is ever appropriate to respond to the rude comments from family [ who are Catholic-grrr!]

 God bless,
 Rita

Congrats! We'll be praying for you and baby. I can commiserate on finding it difficult to feel joyful. Can you maybe get some time alone to just focus on baby? I found going on a retreat to be the best remedy for my ambivalence (not that life doesn't still crowd in!).

So sorry about the negativity. No advice, just hugs!

Rita,

After we announced our 6th pregnancy to our family, there were many negative comments like, "Do we even say congratulations at this point?" GRR! The next time we have baby news, God willing, we are going to send a note in the mail to those who had less than happy responses. I found a cute poem in the search archives here that I am going to use. I just happened to find it:

A Message for Nana and Papa

Have you ever cleaned out your pocket
And discovered a ten dollar bill?
 You really weren’t expecting it,
But it gave your heart a thrill!

Have you ever opened the door
 And there before your eyes
You saw the flower man standing
 With an armful of surprise?

Well a surprise is exactly what’s happened
To us as a man and a wife
The Lord has been gracious and perfectly good
By adding to us a fifth life!

We could have told you in person
But it’s very important you see
That we only see thoughts and reactions
 Of happiness, smiles and glee!

So once you’ve had time to digest it
And been able to ponder it all
When you have a nice word about all that you’ve heard,
Feel free to give us a call!

I think it's a charitable way to tell those who aren't exactly thrilled. It gives them time to process the news and think a little about how they react.

Hope that helps a little. You will be in our prayers.

I am so sorry, Rita. It is a great sadness that at our time of joy and need of support, we receive just the opposite. May Our Blessed Mother strengthen you all, fill you with joy, and shelter your hearts from those who would be unkind.

You can count on us to rejoice with you, Rita! May Our Lady shelter you and the baby, and offer you protection during this sacred time as you shelter a new child of God.

Congratulations! I can relate to the busy-ness. It makes it difficult to focus on the joy. It'll come in those rare quiet moments. I'll be praying for you!

 Blessings,
