Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Have you guys seen this new VW ad with Brooke Shields? We don't have cable so I had not seen it but someone in the adoption community pointed it out to me.

Here is the link

I don't know if it is just a very bad attempt at humor or very sad reflection on the current state of our society. Or both.

That commercial drives me batty! I do think is is just a bad attempt at humor. The one on TV is much shorter.

But I do have fond memories of our Volkswagon Vanagon. The California beach girl in me just loves VW's. These were not available when I was looking for a new van in June. I might have been swayed.......but not by Brooke

Bizarre. I am not sure they necessarily mean to be anti-child. I think it is just a really, really bad attempt at humor.

Nice van, though!

YUCK! We don't have tv and I hadn't seen this until now.

We actually were excited that VW re-introduced a mini-van. When I saw the "baby-maker" thing on their website, I thought it was an attempt at humor playing up the whole hippy thing. Yk, hippies all had microbuses for "free-love"--which equals babymaking, right?

Still vulgar, but at least somewhat redeeming in connecting the "act" to creating a baby.

I think my idea (what I thought their idea was) would have been funnier

Its irritating. Several ladies (okay, ALOT) on my PCOS board are, well, angry. They are mostly upset because it makes it seem like "oh, go have a baby". Yeahhhh...these ladies all have some level of infertility problems--some with multiple m/cs....well, you can imagine the reactions...

Personally, while I realize that the commercials DO actually say that you should "have a baby for love, not for a ROutan", it is just...so, well, tawdry...

yeah I think it would irk women with fertility problems as it specificly mentions fertility drugs and even vasectomy reversals being done just to get the van.

maybe shields thinks she can get away with it because she used fertily drugs? I think she did anyways.. could be wrong. all the celebrities are starting to look alike to me.

anyhoo...

yeah...

that's why I'm having baby #9 folks..

because there's just no other way I'd get the 12 passenger van of my dreams.

you know what irks ME?
why does someone with just 1 baby, and it's not even born yet, need a minivan that seats 7 or 8 for? How big a baby do they think they are going to give birth to and how much baby junk do they think they are going to have to haul around?! I mean, wouldn't it be smarter to get a smaller econo car?

consumer reports says don;t bother with this new van, anyway, it is a huge disappointment.

I saw the commercial . I thought it was kind of stupid, on many levels but.... are't mini-vans "out" anyway??

the thing I see even around here in the frugal midwest is have a baby, get the biggest SUV possible, even with gas the way it is!

would have worked better in a Hummer or Land Rover commercial....

I don't see why they had to use the "childbirth on the rise" and things like reversed vasectomy to even make this ad. They make it sound like a threat or a bad thing that people are having more babies (are they? that's subject to debate but that's for another post LOL)... and most people seeing the ad would get that it's a joke that people are doing it for the German engineering -- but really, they couldn't have come up with a better concept? These marketing people sure are weird...

Probably some single person, and they hired poor Brooke to do the commercials. How sad as it does show the reflection of our society and of making a baby the object.

not just an object, but something to be planned ... as if we can truly plan to get pregnant (believe me, if we had absolute control, I'd have alot more than 5! )

Yes, I think that is what bothered me the most... the message that you can just decide to have a baby whenever you like, just like picking up milk at the grocery store. I think it's that idea that causes so many couples to postpone pregnancy until (insert life goal here) and then when they find their fertility gone, they still think they have a right to "plan" a baby via IVF or whatever.
