Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, I'm new at homeschooling, but for what it's worth, I did want to share some picture books we particularly enjoyed reading as we focused on butterflies in September.

"Gotta Go! Gotta Go!" by Sam Swope -- a picture book about monarch migration, in which a monarch caterpillar/butterfly keeps repeating "Gotta go! Gotta go! Gotta go to Mexico!" which makes for great reading aloud. My boys liked this one.

"The Caterpillar and the Polliwog" by Jack Kent -- what a classic. There is also a movie.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle -- of course.

"Creepy, Crawly Caterpillars" by Margery Facklam and Paul Facklam -- chock full of really amazing caterpillar facts!! Plus I liked that it showed what moth or butterfly the various types of caterpillars (including woolly bears) develop into. Who knew!?

"Monarch Butterfly" by Gail Gibbons

"Butterfly Boy" by Virginia Kroll -- for something other than monarchs, this story is about red admiral butterflies, but it also features a touching relationship between a Hispanic grandfather and his grandson. The artwork is not my style, but the story has good qualities.

We also used some insect/butterfly field guides. And we are awaiting the emergence of some painted lady butterflies we got as very, very small caterpillars from Insect Lore. FUN!

That sounds like so much fun Mary Beth.
Butterflies are always a hit around here. I'm going to check to see if my library has the V. Kroll book. Thanks
