This exhibit is currently at the science centre in our town. Has anyone seen it? Any opinions? I am debating taking my children. They are ages 10,9, and 6.

I, personally, find it utterly repulsive.
We canceled our Science Museum membership because of it.
With the technology available today, there is no good reason that synthetic materials could not have been used. The synthetic material can look identical to the "real thing." There is no reason, that I can see, that real people needed to be used.
They way a culture treats it's deceased says an awful lot about them.
If someone was doing this in their basement, they would be considered a twisted individual. But do it and call it art or science, and it is hailed as a fantastic exhibit.
I have strong feelings about this on, I guess.

I have to agree with Laura. It came to our city, and it was right about the same time that 20/20 (or Dateline?) had an episode about it . For one thing, these poor people were not all willing donors, but some were Chinese political prisoners who had been executed. It seems incredibly disrespectful to display them for our entertainment, even if it's "educational."
Strong feelings here too!

Some bishops have also released statements not to go -- you might check with your diocese. We would not consider attending this -- this just seems to be popular for its shock value rather than a valuable learning experience.

Thanks everyone for your input. I had no idea that some are Chinese prisoners. That is truly appalling! Of course, it is being advertised that all were willing donors.
I knew I would get a fresh perspective from Catholic homeschoolers All of the people I have talked to are very mainstream and don't see it as disrespectful at all, but as something no one should miss. I had a very uneasy feeling about it, and you all put into words what I have been feeling. Thank you.
I also did some research and found that our bishop had written an article on the reasons not to go see it, but many Catholics are simply ignoring what the bishop has said and I know that there are Catholic high schools in the area that are going on field trips to see it anyway.
On another note, my dh who is a dentist and had a cadaver in dental school, said he would never donate his body to medicine because he saw too many students treating their cadavers in an extremely disrespectful manner. Dh was never interested in seeing bodyworlds, either.

I just realized I posted in The Great Outdoors forum by accident. I thought I was posting in a general science forum. I apologise for the mistake.

Maria,
I moved it here - The Great Outdoors is the general (& only) science forum. It was originally posted in the Real Learning forum which is a catch-all for curriculum questions.
