Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm working on an Amazon "Wish List" for Christmas. It really helped last year with family. They loved not having to get overwhelemd looking and we ended up with books we LOVE!!!

I'm trying to make a list of childrens picture books about classical musicians and music, artists and art. My personal library is lacking these types of books.

Thank you!

Two picture books that we have liked
The Boy who loved Music (Joe Lasker) OOP

The Boy who loved to Draw: Benjamin West
By B. Brenner
(we really liked this one.)

Not a picture book but a good reference
History's 100 Greatest Composers by Helen Kaufmann OOP
(Encyclopedia like - but much more detailed than Ventura's version. Each composer has a portrait.)

This is a series that I have recently become aquainted with. I think they are really well done and there are a ton of them! They go great with artist studies...

Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists

This is another book that was recommended to be by a fellow CM follower with an Artist husband. It's on my wish list for Christmas.

Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose: The Story of a Painting

Betsy,
I've taken a few of these books from the library. They cover the material but I'm not sure that I would want to own them. Would you want to buy them if you could?

Well...I see your point. They aren't beautiful, picture book type books like what I might call "Catholic Mosaic" of art books. But, I do own two of them because we are doing an intensive artist study and I really like all of the artist pictures that are included. So, I guess to edit what I posted, I think these are nice curriculum type picture books that describe and artist life and include art work, that might be better checked out from the library. Thanks for pointing that out Helen...I probably should have described that better.

What about these:
Katie Meets the Impressionists
Linnea in Monet's Garden
The Magical Garden of Claude Monet
The Heroic Symphony
Story of the Orchestra

Some of these books seem to have other books in a collection. They look pretty good.

Betsy, I've taken those books out of the libray and I thought the kids would like them, but I think they were too busy for them. I agree that I like that they have many examples of the art work. The book, Lily, Lily, Carnation, Rose....looks beautiful! Thank you!

I put The boy Who Loved to Draw on my Wish List too!

Thank you! Thank you!

I think I'm the same way Betsy. If I find the Ventura books at a booksale, I would buy them. If anyone offered to give me a Ventura book I would also be happy to have it as a resource. I just wouldn't go out of my way to purchase them.

I don't remember Linnea in Monet's garden but my teenage daughter remembers reading this a few years ago and liked it very much.

Art Fraud Detective is pretty cool for older kids.
A Child's Book of Play in Art is big and colorful and full of neat stuff.

Also, not a book, but the set of CD's called "The Story of Classical Music", narrated by Marin Alsop is really great.

Jennifer,
These are two of my favorite subjects to collect books on. I have detailed lists on my blog sidebar. My blog needs to be updated VERY badly and has been neglected for months, however I think the lists are still there. If not, pm me and when I have more time I will send my lists to you.
Heidi

Heidi,
I didn't get a chance to look at all you had listed, but what I did see is what I've been looking for!    Thank you so much!

I have been putting together an art and music picture book list here. It is biased towards books published in the UK, but most will be available on both sides of the Atlantic. It is a work in progress and I am adding books that look good as I find them - I need to go back through this thread .
