Please say special prayers for the economy of our country which is in dire straits - it is so scary listening to the news or reading the papers. Please pray for Congress to make the right decisions. And for an end to the greed and corruption and mismanagement of the heads of many companies.

And special prayers for so many families who are struggling financially in these tough times - to keep their homes and feed their children.

May I offer this prayer from Padre Pio, whose feast day is today, as a prayer to say when we are feeling overwhelmed. This prayer brought me to tears today - it really focuses on what's important.

Such an important prayer request, it is just so hard what the States are going through in particular, but there is a flow-over here too, just in the last year things have quickly gone downhill...praying for all those greatly effected.

Can I add a request for prayers for our children who are overhearing bits of the news and getting anxious?

We watched the president's speech this evening as a family. Afterwards, one of my dds was visibly anxious and asked about the references to the economic disaster being comparable to the Great Depression. I reassured her that the steps the government is taking will hopefully keep us from a big recession or depression.

Lesson learned. I need to protect some of the kids from the news. Could be challenging with a news-junkie dh.

Could you pray for peace and feelings of security for our children?

We learned this lesson, too. DH and I were talking in the kitchen about how we are on our last dollars and how it's like the Great Depression, and my daughter overheard us. She's been extremely anxious. So, we've learned to shield her for the sake of letting her just be a kid and not have to shoulder the immense weight that we have, too.

I am definitely praying for all the families trying to survive in these horrible, horrible times.
