Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you would have the chance to hear any speaker(catholic) at a parish event, who would you want to hear?

I am part of a newly formed Women's Council in our Parish and I wanted to suggest having a speaker come. Nothing exclusively about motherhood as many women do not have children or are very old. Most of the women are mothers with young children, but not all and we need to make sure that all women feel welcome. I know these speakers cost money, but we could swing it if it were open for all parishes in our area.
I just don't know who is out there. It seems that no one comes to S. Florida except for vacation. I look in our diocesan paper, but nada. So, I am hoping that through the new energy of this women's group we can get a solid catholic speaker down here.

So dream ladies....who would you love to hear?

Stephanie -- how close are you to Naples? Ave Maria probably has some great women on faculty who could come speak. Or how about Michael Waldstein or his wife Susie -- parents of 8, grandparents to I think 2 now; they are on the Pontifical Council for the Family, are an amazing couple and could talk to any of a number of topics including bioethics, JP the Great, theology, homeschooling, teaching, etc.

They just moved to Naples so Michael could teach at Ave Maria (and Susie is an adjunct in theology too).

Not sure if this is what you were thinking, but my children recently attended a Night with G.K. Chesterton. A local Catholic group sponsored the event with the actor Chuck Chalberg from the EWTN series, it was very well attended and received.

I heard Helen Hull Hitchcock speak about Women for Faith and Family at a parish conference for women. She was wonderful and I think she appealed to the whole group. I was newly married and without children and I enjoyed it.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I clicked on the links, but was not able to find anything about speaking engagements, so I guess I need to just send a request for info per email. Amy Welborn speaks also doesn't she? But maybe only about her books and their subjects.

Any other ideas?

Do you want it to be a male or a female speaker?

Amy Wellborn speaker info

Rosiland Moss is someone I would love to hear in person. Speaker info here

Here is Johnnette Benkovic's website. I can't find a specific speaker info area and the "bring a conference to your area" link isn't working, but there is contact info listed. I've heard her speak before - she is excellent.

Michaelann Martin is great, though I don't know if she is speaking much. Here is some speaker information.

Alice von Hildebrand would be good - can't find speaker info though.

I'd just start emailing folks, telling 'em what you've got in mind and asking .... some of the big names (like Amy Welborn or others) maybe way outside your funding while others may do it as a goodwill gesture ...

I'm definitely of the "can't hurt to ask" school of booking speakers!
