Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The Holiday Grand Plan starts this week!

Anyone else going to follow it, even loosely?

I love the fact that I feel "allowed" to official start thinking about Christmas!

I am! I've printed out this week's stuff. I had planned on working on it today but had lunch with my mom friends without kids.

Just you and me, it seems, KC!

Are you still on target? I am already a week behind . Typical! But I am catching up!   And I like having the plan - however loosely I follow it!

My goal is to have a stress-free Holiday Season!

Unlikely, I know!

I'm behind as well but hope to catch up as well once this wedding is over. I want to be in denial that Christmas is so close but I can't be. There's too much to do!

Well, I am reading along with you and I printed out the first week's stuff, and then had an awful week. I don't know that I'll be able to keep up with all the housecleaning stuff, but I am trying to keep up with the purchasing and getting ready for Christmas stuff...

Yep I'm trying...lagging behind I think.

But I figure at least it is in my mind, so that is already a step ahead than usual for me!

I am following the Holiday Grand Plan (loosely, excellent description) too.

I love the 'Plan' because I am such a form junkie. This year, instead of printing out the entire thing (and comb-binding it beautifully), I am trying to only print what I actually plan to write on, or need to read away from the computer. I have been following it for years, so I already know, I never actually use the majority of those forms.
ie. Decor List (not a chance)
    ditto: Decor Storage
            Pantry/Freezer Inventory
Pot Luck Planner (I'm not having one)
            Ornament Journal (come on!)

you get the idea. Now, the real question. Why did it take me so long to figure out that I don't need to print the ones I won't use?

Yep - that's me too!

Ornament Journal? I must have missed that one... Do you journal about the ornaments? Or is it to do like an inventory?

nope, I probably won't be using that one, either.

It's to inventory your ornaments -
I buy all my children a new ornament each year, so when they move into their own homes they have something to start their own tree with. Both sets of grandparents do this for the grandkids off and on also, so I actually thought the inventory seemed like a fabulous idea at first.

But, in actuality, writing their name & year in sharpie in the least obtrusive place possible is much more up my alley. I did finally have to get a fine line sharpie so that it could be a bit less obvious.

I have a list of *just* the kids ornaments.. I label them when possible with names too.. but some are really difficult to label.. so the list helps too.. but it's just a simple paper list that goes in the ornament box.. and I just write down the new ornament each year.. certainly not *all* the ornaments or anything. Plus with 8 kids and one tree not all the ornaments come out each year.. I figure that will be even more so by the time I need to collect ornaments for each child.. this way I can look for particular ornaments rather than unpacking every ornament to check for names.

Oh and I'm not following the list at all at this point.. but I have started my gift list in excel.. all nice and neat and color coded and I want to do some deep cleaning stuff.. but since I'm expecting company in about 8 hrs for the baby's baptism tomorrow.. now is not the time to be doing that.

And I also have on my "happening soon radar".. switching clothing from summer to winter including changing sizes for several children (but not all of them).

I'm slow on the take-off but I'm going to start. Last year it was absolutely necessary that I shopped way early because dear Carrie was born Dec. 17th but I always like to start shopping/planning early. I got one Hearthsong order today.

OK, so does anyone besides me think its weird that they want us to bake and freeze meals NOW for almost 3 months from now? I am all for freezing ahead, but 3 mos? I'm not sure my cookies or casseroles would taste all that great by that time...

If you are bypassing those instructions, when are you going to start your baking/freezing dinners? I usually start around the beginning of Advent. Anyone have any luck starting a bit earlier?

I'm always busy with something it seems so I wouldn't freeze meals ahead anyway.. and I LIKE doing my baking during Advent.. it's part of the fun of it.. and besides it fits so well being preparation for Christmas and all.. besides by then my whole garage is a refrigerator and I don't have to hunt for space

Don't know if on the grand plan but I got the seasonal clothing switch done and that's a major undertaking..

Oh! I'm also starting to buy stuff.. since I have my list going and since I'm starting orders what with October birthdays coming up fast.

I'm also trying to decide what to give my oldest for Confirmation.. being only 11.. some of the ideas I had when thinking of her being older won't work so well.. I am getting her a small pair of dove earrings.. I'm thinking a rosary box and a new rosary.. but I'm not sure on the rosary.

I wish I could. At this point, I'm just starting to knit some scarves for the dds for Christmas--red for dd#1, pink for dd#2, and I think it will be purple for dd#3. DH wants a "natural toned" wool one, and of course I don't have anything in those colors in wool..sooooo I'm having to wait to start his.

THe boys are getting as many good-quality rolling toys (cars, trucks, etc)...those will have to wait for more $$, too.

I've got a good stash of decor stuff, but it was adequate for our much smaller (this one is three times the size of the old one) home in NC. Now, we have a much larger space to decorate...so assuming all goes well, I will be looking forward to more decor purchasing between whenever we get the VA $$ and Christmas...
