(again)
My 95-year-old grandmother is really struggling right now. She is totally despondent (she is normally a hystrionic worrier, but this is way over the top). She calls me many times a week crying and wishing she were dead. I think her once acute mind is slipping because she will wail about things I have assured her over and over will never come to pass (like she'll be living on the streets, etc).
My father is her only child, and they do not get along at all - although they talk regularly (they live a few hours apart) it always degrades into a hateful, yelling stress-fest. He just can't emotionally separate himself and see that she is extremely old and in need of loving care.
My father starts a new job tomorrow and is quite anxious about it, and adding this in with my grandmother (and some things about my brother) has been so hard on him. While you're at it, could you say a prayer for my dear mother who is the innocent bystander in all this craziness but takes the brunt of my family's venting?
