Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, I guess this really isn't outdoors, but I wasn't sure where else to ask.

My boys have a tank of sea monkeys that has been doing really well. They've been reproducing and giving amusement for almost 3 months now.

Unfortunately, in the heat of Arizona, the water is evaporating from the tank. I know they're really brine shrimp, so does anyone know the salt/water ratio to add more water to the tank?

I could add plain water, but their ecosystem seems so stable I don't want to mess with it if I don't have to.

thanks!

it says to just add water. but it killed ours when we did that. (also, no matter how skanky the tank gets on the bottom, if you clean it, they will die )

maybe if you just added an itty bit of water over the course of a few days?

i hope you get good advice!

This is what the "official Sea Monkeys" site says:

When the water level gets low, should I add more Water Purifier?
No, just fill to the correct level with distilled or purified water. The Water Purifier is designed as a one-time formula

Can I use tap water?
Nope. Distilled or filtered water is best.

Do I ever need to add salt to their water?
No, everything they need is in their Instant Life packet.

What temperature should the water be?
Room temperatures around 72° F (22° c) should be fine.

Should I change the water periodically?
Nope.

There was also a "helpful hint" to be sure that the water you added was the same temp as the tank.

Thanks, Laura.

I knew they said you could just add water, but I know that instant life pack includes salt . . .

oh, well . . . maybe I'll let it continue to evaporate. We lost a fish already this week, I'm not up to losing more "pets"!

Remember that even though the water evaporates, the salt does not. Adding fresh water (as though it were raining) is the rule.
