I have seen some really cute knitted fruits & vegtables.
Has anyone knitted some? How hard are they/how long do they take to make? Is there a good source for patterns?
Thanks...I am thinking ahead for Christmas....

I have a friend who made some lovely ones.. don't know if she used a pattern or not. I can try and remember to ask her.. she's online a lot less recently so harder to catch her.

My friend is participating in a knitted food group right now. Each person knits a bunch of one thing and then they send all their stuff to one person who puts 'sets' together for each person. She's knitting bacon

Betsy, I found this pattern and it's free! Guess what I'm knitting next? You can do these; just follow along on the pattern and in the end-viola! veggies!
ETA I found more!
OK, last time, I promise. Look at these are AMAZING! Wish I could find]those patterns.

Katie,
Last night, I posted a long post, with book links and websites and than lost it all ! So, I took the coward's way out and went to bed.
Basically, Nicky Epstein, Jan Messent and Jean Greenhow would be the best folks to look at their books -- they have lots of things like knitted veggies and fruit. Many are felted (which hides ALOT of mistakes and you can mold the final project a bit).
There are some really cute patterns that have been posted already.
Just leap in and try a few -- the knitting isn't onerous and can be lots of fun ... I think you'll find that once you start making tomatoes, you'll realize you can easily change the pattern to make pumpkins, apples, oranges, etc. Knitting is so versatile an easily manipulated once you get started!
Blessings and post pictures, please!

Thanks for the links, Liz. I had seen the last picture you posted before and fell in love with knitted vegetables!!!
...And the encouragement, Mary G. I do just need to jump in and start!! Heck...even our real veggies go bad here sometime, so it might just match my knitted ones.

Ok, if anyone does these (or maybe even their kids) and decides to sell them for the holidays, please remember to post. I was planning on buying some anyway from etsy this Christmas, and would prefer to help out a Catholic homeschooling family if possible!!

I caught my friend online.. and this is the info she has
Quote:
http://www.beartoes.com
the first post at the top with teh baby hand and then the photos of the food has links to the patterns
also.. on ravelry.. a site with TONS Of patterns, but you have to subsribe there are more cupcakes with wrappers that come off, squash, pieces of cake, cookies
if you want to join ravelry, you go to http://www.ravelry.com and add your email to a list, in a day or two they will send you an invite, it's huge, but still in beta, 150,000 subscribers, there you can do a pattern search, can put just knitting or just crocheting or both and pull up patterns that are tagged food.. you need to click patterns, and then search by tags or patterns, and experimental search (that's where she can pick the craft etc) or you can just find my profile, MamaBear, no spaces and look in my favorites - it has a ton of links to food patterns
oh.. and this site has CUTE ones free.. half way down the page Tea Party Treats part 1 and part 2 http://www.jeangreenhowe.com/patterns.html |

Thanks Jodie,
I did join Ravelry, or at least put my name on the list. I will check out all of your links when I get a chance....
I also went to the library last night and looked at some books! Boy, was that fun to have an hour alone (okay, not alone but with my quite baby) at the library to look at tons of crafting book!!!! Thank God we have a beautiful library here!!

I did some for Christmas last year - my kids don't play with them but I put pictures up at the end of this post. I'm not sure where I got the patterns - random google searches and my own creations, I think. I *love* the "finer" look of the knitted ones, though!!
