Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I mean side-splitting, tears rolling, type of funny.

It seems everything "funny" is just crude these days. I don't necessarily want something for the kids. They are pretty happy with Bob Hope and Danny Kaye, along with Gilligan and Bewitched.

I just want to laugh.

Suggestions?

I always think of "The Long, Long Trailer." Lucille Ball was in it, and I remember it being funny, funny, funny. That one and the original "Yours, Mine and Ours" also with Lucille Ball. It's a theme, I guess. For up to date movies, I have no idea. I agree with you that they are all crude or distasteful.

Whenever I need a laugh, I put in Bruce Almighty and go to the scene where Steve Carrell is the tongue-tied newscaster......it's very funny.

Also, he's funny in Dan in Real Life. (I love this movie). My neighbor and I stayed up til midnight one night watching several of those scenes over and over and laughed so hard!

I still remember the first time I watched "Weekend at Bernie's". I fell off the couch because I was laughing so hard at the scene involving the stapler and the scene with the bouy.

There are also lines from "Dumb and Dumber" which still make me crack up.

OK, it's not a movie . . . but one of the things we gave to dd#3 on her 10th birthday was a set of dvds from the old Andy Griffith shows. We have all been enjoying them, and dh and I especially find ourselves cracking up at the antics of Barney Fife. They have been one of the best media investments we've made in a long time!

for an old movie one that when I haven't seen it recently just makes me laugh and laugh is "Bringing up Baby" Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn (I believe)

I don't laugh out loud at many movies.. some that are more light hearted though I don't know if they're really comedy but they have things I remember finding amusing..

Sleepless in Seattle
While You were Sleeping
French Kiss
No Reservations
Shall We Dance
Take the Lead
Maverick (may be more crass in spots than you want)
Return to Me

Road to Moracco It's Bob Hope of course, but hysterical. I wouln't recommend all of the Road To's though.

What about Abbot and Costello? We are big A&C fans here!

Abbot and Costello Collection I can't believe the price of this collection, but maybe you can find the titles individually.

One of my favorite movies of all time is The Producers, the original one with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel. I found that the first time I watched it it was ok, but every time after that I laughed hysterically through it.

The whole family seems to love anything with Danny Kaye. Just last night we watched The Court Jester . Certain lines from White Christmas never fail to crack us up. Growing up, my sister and I used to re-enact the Haynes SIsters doing their dance to the song Sisters. My own daughters spontaneously did the same thing the first time they saw the movie , as did my sister's two daughters! Funny! Can these things be genetic?

Don't discount this until you try it....Laurel and Hardy.

Our sons have laughed until they cried at Laurel and Hardy, and our oldest can now do physical comedy to humor his brother at moment's notice (pretending to fall, pretending something is too heavy to carry, etc.)

For Halloween last year they went as Laurel and Hardy.

Give it a try. So far, absolutely no parts that I thought were crude, rude, immoral, etc.

Return to Me

Bringing Up Baby was going to be my suggestion. It just doesn't stop, imo, the laughs are constant, and Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn have perfect comedic timing!

Return to Me is also very funny but you will also cry whereas Bringing Up Baby is pure slapstick.

My family's vote for the funniest movie ever is It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Whenever we need a good laugh, we pull it out.

My pick is Raising Arizona, but you have to like that type of humor.

Young Frankenstein is also pretty funny.
