Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Somehow, I have a bunch of Ramona books in my house. Not sure from whence they came. Are they worth keeping around in case my kids run out of other books?

Well, I can tell you that we LOVE Ramona around here. We never go on vacation without at least one Ramona audio cd from the library. They are hilarious and entertain dh and I as much as the rest of the family. Teen boys get bored of Ramona after about age 11, but 11 yr old dd still loves her.

I'd keep 'em.

Molly,
I was so fond of Ramona the Pest from childhood days.

This was the first book the girls and I read at the start of last school year.

We howled. It was so fun! And, every now and then, something happens and I'll tell the girls, "Just like Ramona." and there are some very fond glances shared at the memory.

Do read!

These were also a favorite of mine growing up. And my dd 7 likes them as well.

Okay, they stay! I never read them, and my older three haven't. I honestly don't know where they came from, but I guess we can find room for them somewhere.
Thanks!

I LOVED Ramona as a kid, but I'm not crazy about them now. My girls LOVE them. I'm done reading them out loud, though. When they can read chapter books, they can have at 'em!

I loved Ramona when I was a little girl. When my children turned 5 (for some reason that was the magic age) I hauled out the Ramona books to read to them. My youngest is 5 now so it looks like this will be the last time we got through them.

A few months ago, I found most of the Henry Huggins books used. I am reading them now to my ds. He is a hard boy to please when it comes to read alouds but the loves Henry!

I could have written that response, Suzanne. My thoughts exactly.

I was perusing Storybook Travels: Visits to 30 of the Best-Loved Landmarks in Children's Literature from the library the other day and one of the landmarks is:

The Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden in Grant Park in Portland. As well as the Beverly Cleary Library at the Multnomah County Library downtown.

Anyone been there?

Also, Beverly Cleary was recently awarded some distinguished alum award at the Univ of Washington.
