Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Would you dear friends offer a quick prayer for me? I have decided that we need to supplement our income by taking in a child or two to watch. I have placed an ad in the local paper and calls are coming in!

Please pray that we find a good match and that I don't overextend myself. I worry that I will get caught up in seeing dollar signs and not make prudent decisions. Of course, as home schoolers, we never want to open ourselves up to someone outside the family that could try to find fault with us if they aren't satisfied.

Can you tell I am a little nervous?!

I have one lady coming Saturday who has a baby girl the same age as my little guy. She is very nervous about leaving her. It would only be in the afternoons so that would work great with homeschooling.

Thanks so much!

I will be praying for the numerous prayer requests on the forum today, even if I don't get a chance to post!

Praying, Molly. I've done this. It is hard work (much more stressful to watch someone else's child) but, as you say, it is a great way to supplement your income.

Well, this is what I have so far.
I have a 13 month old who will be with us every day from 8:30-2:30. Her great-grandmother has custody of her and works at the cafeteria of the local high school. She, the grandmother, seems likable and pretty relaxed so I think it will work well.

Then there is a 9 month old baby who would come from 2:30 to 5:30. Her mother also works for the school system. I am iffy about this one. They came over this weekend, mom, dad and baby. The parents made several comments about how she is their "princess" and how they were very nervous about leaving her. Of course, I understand this. But I started thinking and praying about it after the interview. I am worried they will be the type to over-react to little things. I can promise to take care of their baby like my own. I cannot promise that my toddler won't bonk her on the head with a toy, or that my baby won't bite her some day. I just don't need the headache of dealing with first time parents! So, I may tell them no.

Finally, I talked to a single mom who has a 13yr old and an 11 yr old whom she needs a place for on school holidays. She doesn't want them home alone. We haven't met in person, but just the fact that she cares enough to find them a place to be impressed me. I thought she would cry when I told her what I would charge. Apparently, my rates are really low! But I really would like to have the opportunity to help a struggling mom while giving my family a little more room to breathe in regards to finances.

Thanks for asking and thanks for the prayers! Ideally, I would love to find an older preschooler to watch full time in addition to the 13 month old.

I just wanted to tell you to go with your gut on that second child ... if you're getting that "vibe" from the parents, there is probably a reason for it. Working for the school system, frankly, is another red flag to me.
