I have not been able to find a CD of a Rosary for Children. I am sure I am doing something wrong. Does anyone have a favorite CD? Could you provide a link (or name of a place to purchase)? I could not find the one from Lion Communications that Elizabeth mentions in Real Learning.
Also, if you were starting a family rosary with DS 6 and 7, would you use a CD or simply say the prayers?
I love the idea I read somewhere about family members taking turns leading each decade (and announcing an intention). I think my boys would enjoy this. What would you suggest I use for them to guide the meditations on the mysteries?
I have printed pictures that I thought I would show them. I also downloaded Jennifer's great coloring pages (though for some reason I could not download the Joyful Mysteries).
Finally, is it OK to start off by saying one decade a night or do we need to say an entire rosary in one night?

For us the CD works because it keeps a good pace even if I'm dealing with the baby or toddlers.. and there's not pauses while others are distracted or such. And keeping it short (by not slowing down) makes it easier for the kids.

We just say the prayers, but we have an older batch of children in addition to the young 'uns. We do like using our CD of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, too. I think Jodie has a great point about the CD keeping a good pace, even if Mama is distracted.
Speaking of distraction... We allow our kids to announce the mysteries. One night it was Will's turn (then aged 6). He says, "The First Joyful Mystery: The Menstruation". Oh, give me strength. I have NO idea where he even heard that word. We don't talk about those things at all in mixed company. I had to get up from the table and walk to the bathroom, where I stayed until the third decade. I'm sure Our Blessed Mother understood. She was probably rolling with laughter, too. Bless his heart.
Fortunately, my husband is gifted with oblivion. He missed the "announcement" and kept the pace going.

One night, as we were praying the Rosary, I (obviously not being as attentive as I should have been ) prayed "Holy Moly" instead of Holy Mary. I didn't even realize I'd said it, until everybody started cracking up and I couldn't figure out why...
We just pray the mysteries, Tracey. We usually pray all of them, but lately we've really been trying to help the 3yo sit down and not be such a distraction to others who are praying so we've only been focusing on one mystery per evening as a family. I think the smaller chunks help my 7 yo focus as well, although the older children (and dh and I) are really missing praying the entire Rosary together as a family.
The children do get more involved if they are leading the prayers (daddy always leads the Rosary and asks another child to help lead a mystery) and particularly enjoy offering their intentions at the beginning of the Rosary. Another help is to ask a child to read the Scripture related to the mystery - just another way to bring the child into the prayer and get them actively involved. It helps me meditate, too!
You will be so rewarded for bringing this prayer into your family prayer time!

Keep it up!
We've said the Rosary so many different ways just to make sure it is said. I ask the children often,
"Who asked that we pray the Rosary every day?"
They answer
Our Lady of Fatima, Our Mother in Heaven,
Jesus' Mother...
This helps to take pressure off me. I also remind them that Our Lady asked little children (6,7 and 8 years old) to pray the rosary.
We've tried different languages, different CDs, with EWTN, different times of the day, different pictures, different postures, Bible reading, prayer meditations, no meditations, in the car, walking, on the swings. I even put on a movie of the life of Christ, lowered the volume and said the Rosary.
In the end, a poorly said Rosary is better than no rosary at all. (Even though we all want to say a very beautiful rosary.)

Jennifer- Thanks for the laugh- it's not often that I get to laugh out loud from posts twice in such a short time!
Helen- Thank you for the encouragement.
It sounds like I need to just start doing it and go from there! I have this desire to present the "perfect" way of saying the family Rosary... Yet I know in my heart all of the trappings of that sort of perfection.
I have my husband on board with starting a family Rosary and two boys who are really embracing the faith that they have just recently been introduced to. Truly, I am blessed!

For now, we say 1 decade in the evening. Sometimes we say one in the morning as well. Lately my oldest has been asking to do more. My girls love leading and love explaining what each decade means. I was looking for a rosary cd for kids said by kids. I found this one.
Rosary for kids by kids
I would use this for the car.

We say a family rosary. I had to laugh at the "interpretations" of the Mysteries. I thought only my kids did that. We've had The Egging in the Garden and The Century of the Holy Spirit. Oh well, at least they were participating.

We've been praying the Family Rosary for years now, and we have done the gammut of CD's, videos, books, coloring page, and just saying the prayers. We try to mix it up, I think that helps with my brood.
Lovin' the 'rosary bloopers'. We've had many of those here to. Right now my 3 year old has been praying a decade of Hail Mary's. He's a real laid back go with the flow kind of guy. He prays "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is wif ya."  Melts my heart!
