Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you celebrate "New Year's Day" with the liturgical year also? How do you do it?

Laura forgive me but I'm having trouble understanding if you mean Jan 1 as New Year's Day or just what???

it was a tiring weekend (last swim meet of the summer)

Sorry I wasn't clearer! No. I meant like at the start of Advent, since it is the beginning of the liturgical year.

I guess what I mean is do you focus your "year" more on the litirgical cycles or on the Gregorian Calendar?

ok I could read it either way and felt fuzzy-headed enough that I wasn't getting which you meant.

we don't celebrate a "new year" then so much as knowing that Advent begins the year and starting up Advent stuff. Which is rather chaotic here because we travel at Thanksgiving. It's how it works for us.. travel at Thanksgiving, home at Christmas.

Just like we also have the start of the school year and the start of the calender year.. which we get to stay up somewhat late, set off a few firecrackers and eat pozole (so not a huge deal)

Laura, I thought that was what you were talking about. I didn't get a chance before the boards closed on Saturday to post and say - Yes, we have celebrated it. I posted a quick mention and picture last year when we toasted the new liturgical year with Gwen and her family. Gwen described it in more detail at O Night Divine. It was really fun and would love for it to become a tradition here.
