Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello to my helpful, crafty friends! I am coming to you again for an idea! I'm hosting a baby shower for a friend. She is having her 9th child. She hasn't had a shower since her first child 14 years ago. I'm trying to come up with an idea for her cake. I'm having it made at Whole Foods and need to bring a picture or an idea for the decorations. She is a practicing Catholic, homeschools, has an art & education background, is very calm (why she hangs with me, I don't know), and likes simplicity. So none of the typical baby shower cakes will do.

No themes, other than pampering mom and her blessing. Don't know the gender of baby.

One other question....what image of Mary would you use for this event?

Jennifer, I made a cake one time that was just a sheet cake with the frosting done in even squares all over thet top, and I alternated blue and pink colors, used the decorating tool to make the squares. Gosh, now I'm a bit fuzzy on this, I followed a picture. And then on random squares I had little trinkets (these were mini wax candles) of baby things, like blocks, pins, baby bottle, rubber ducky. I found most of the stuff from Michael's at the time.

It didn't take a long tme, although it sounds time consuming. I might have made the whole cake one color and then used the piping to make the contrasting colors.
