Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this program? My 10yo loves science and has done most of the basic elementary stuff. I can't decide whether it would be best to have a science program to take him more in depth, or if I should save my money and buy lots of kits and more books to read.

Talking of kits, has anyone used the ones from Home Science Adventures? I was drawn to them as the blurb said they include everything - including the dixie cups. Good thing as you can't get those here, as is the case with so many "common household objects" required by other science kits.

FInally, what about Sonlight Science? He doesn't want to do the Human Body one, as that has been done by every teacher in incrementally more detail since second grade. Perhaps the Science 6 program?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have regarding my terrible overthinking of this.

We did all the Home Science Adventure kits around that age with my oldest 2 boys and loved them all. The only negative is that the pocket microscope is a royal pain to use, imho.

I think the only thing we ever needed was a slice of bread and water, which was a way awesome thing to not have to mess with.

I have already decided on stuff for this year, but I'm planning on buying them again for my middlers in that age area next year.

We did the Home Science adventures this past year. We did light, bugs, and microscopic explorations. Let me tell, you Martha is right about that pocket microscope. Ours were so bad (and we had two!) that they almost ruined the unit for us. They were not easy to use, and did not work predictably. The light unit was fun, and they liked the bugs one, as well. This year I'm thinking of biting the bullet and buying some type of "real" microscope, because the kids really wanted to look at the microscopic stuff, but it was just too frustrating to do it that way. It is true, you really don't need anything except for the bread and water, and I LOVED that aspect of the program.

We went with Noeo.

I will tell you, someone (I think on another list?) mentioned that Real Science 4 Kids only covers 10 weeks - it is NOT a year long program. I hadn't realized that (neither had they).

I have gotten all my suppies for NOEO (we're doing Chem 2) and I am pretty happy with what I see.

I really, really debated between Sonlight Science and NOEO. I will probably be doing SL Sci 4 next year. From what I understand from talking with others on the SL lists, people have successfully use SL Sci K and 1 up to the 4th and 5th grade levels. So - I would say that they could easily be used up or down from their "suggested" age ranges.

We loved the Home Science Adventures units we did, and had the opposite experience with the microscope. Even my then six year old was able to use it easily, and it has had quite a bit of use since.
