Last Saturday was my 45th birthday and it seems God had a great idea for a birthday gift . I'm pregnant . I've been reading up what I could find on the internet about pregnancy in the mid-forties, and most of it was reassuring but the risk of miscarriage is a lot higher than I would like . I'd really appreciate prayers for this baby! Please also pray for my dh, who is desperately anxious that he will struggle to cope with a new baby at nearly 50.
I read the posts on the "older mothers" thread Willa started. If anyone has any more advice - or reassurance! - please send it along.

Kathryn,
I am absolutely thrilled for you! You and your husband will be in my prayers. I tease my dh that he will have no time for a mid-life crisis because when he is 50 we may still have toddlers running around! Tell your dh that a new baby will keep him young longer. Oh, I'm so happy for you!

Do a search on Marilyn Shannon. I think she had her last at 47 or something like that. She wrote 'Fertility Cycles and Nutrition'.

Congratulations! Many prayers for an uneventful pregnancy!
My aunt in Ireland had her last at 48. I've got many family women who've had babies well into their forties, and they all say it keeps them young. God Bless!

Congratulations Kathryn!!
I will certainly be praying for you and your dh. Oh those poor husbands of ours who worry so about being the supporter. My dh always tells me when he is stressing about having more children..."Laura, if we won the lottery we could have as many children as you want!"
As far as coping with having a child in his golden years...it is a natural worry, but hey truthfully that is what keeps us young and grounded!

Kathryn, how good God is... what a blessing!
A friend of mine had a baby at age 46.
I will certainly be praying.

Oh Kathryn -- YEAH!!!!
Tell dh not to worry -- my dh became a father at 50 and thought "oh no" but then remembered he's supposed to be open to life so he couldn't fuss much -- it's been wonderful (but exhausting) having John-Paul running circles around us, but it also makes you young!!!!!!!
You and the little one are in our prayers....

Following on Laura's coment, I was discussing the job of being a provider/supporter of large familes with another dad and he had a great observation.
"It's my job to accept the gifts God gives me such as my children and to work to the best of my ability. It is God's job to provide for them. Remember what Jesus said about the lillies of the field and the birds of the air." (I am paraphrasing but that is the gist of your thoughts)
I remembered this as I was concerned about the level of work I could see in the near future. The next day I had a number of phone calls promising more work. Once again, I had to apologise to God, "Lord I believe, help my unbelief"
(and congratulations to Kathryn!!)

Kathryn,
How exciting I'm getting goosebumps reading your post. So thrilled for you a beautiful blessing. In my prayers.
We have a couple of dad's in our group here who are in their late 40s and early 50s.
Their wives tell me they worry a little, but like Abraham God has other plans for them.
Fantastic
