Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I seem to remember someone recommending "The Daughter of Time" by Tey. I am trying to gather a few good books to take on our fall trip (leaving Saturday!) and was wondering if this would be a good read or if anyone had any other titles by her (or anyone else for that matter) to recommend?

I am knocking myself for not ordering some more Eliz. Goudge books to take. I have read all the ones at my library and now only have her hard-to-find ones left to read. I just finished the Cathedral Omnibus--wow, it was awesome!!

Great book, Jennifer, a history-mystery who-dunnit, set in England.

Have you read any of the Lord Peter Wimsey novels by Dorothy Sayers? If you like English mysteries...even if you DON'T like mysteries...they're so literate and entertaining (and readily available). I'm looking forward to re-reading them all once I've forgotten them!

I'll second Kelly's recommendation -- also anythingby Chesterton and Wodhouse is a hoot.....Belloc is great if you want something meatier than fiction but not so deep you actually have to work

Enjoy!

Thanks, Mary and Kelly! I'm taking your recommendations to the local Barnes and Noble and hopefully I'll have a couple good titles to read this week-end and next week while I sit on my porch swing   and enjoy the fall foilage in the Ozarks...

Hi all,

I just had to say how much I am enjoying Tey's books. I have read Miss Pym Disposes, A Shilling for a Candle, The Daughter of Time and just finished my favorite yet, The Franchise Affair...it was a great read, I couldn't put it down...I just loved the main character, the lawyer, Robert. He was such a genuinely authentic character, noble, yet given to the everyday petty emotions that we all succumb to at times--and I love how he breaks out of his mundane existence to help the mother and daughter...Just makes my heart happy!

I'm asking for the rest of Tey's books for Christmas...
