Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello ladies,

I am looking at planning the coming year for the first time. I have a dd5yo, dd4yo and ds2 1/2yo and a 4 months old.
I have been using BFIAR and CHC, which work great but I was looking at the Usborne 10 weeks programs and they seem pretty appealing, has anyone used them in the past?

We are about half way through BFIAR, we started after the baby was born, are my children too young to start with FIAR?

Also, what could I do in math, we tried MCP K and I think they go way too fast for the kids to assimilate the concepts. I have always hated math and I am trying to avoid that for them....

Any advice, suggestion of what I could do is more than welcome, maybe it will stop my brain from spinning so fast LOL!

I think I just get too many ideas

Appreciate all of you and your help.

hi mattie,
i will chime in~i do sell usborne books, but i will give you my best unbiased advise.
i used the under the sea curriculum last year before a trip to kauai. i used it over a 2 week period, which worked fine. there were some fun things in there, but i think my dd (1st grade) was a bit young for some of it.
i already had the books so that was great, but you would have to get them all if you did not have them, so that is a consideration. overall, i think it is a good supplement, if you wanted to spin off on another topic, but if you have been enjoying fiar, i would stick with that.
also, find some fun manipulative based math program for the kids to make it fun-first!
have you looked at serendipity? elizabeth's site?

blessings,
lisa

i have used FIAR this year with my 5.5 yo son. i LOVE the books and there are many great suggestions, but many of them would be way way over his head. she gives so many ideas you can really pick and choose what is at your childs level. i think it is probably ideal for 1st-3rd grade. For my son, five days in a row was too many.   he was getting restless and bored by the end, so i read just three or four days.
hope that helps

A few years ago we did the fairy Usborne Ten Terrific Weeks Programs. It was little more than a list of assignments using their books in Read pages xx-xx, style. We also didn't like several of the books. If you've seen and love the books in the program and you're looking for someone to lay out the reading assignments for you, it would work just fine. Don't expect a lot of creativity.
